That's nice. Why don't you share with us the details of the offer? No offer in my email yet. In the past they have sent out offers in bits and pieces.

I just got the offer too. I had told myself I wasn't going to buy the PLUS if I couldn't carry over the years of service I had already paid for. I guess many had the same opinion and they've now listened. Guess it's time to upgrade and buy. $34.95 beats $69.95.

As a MJ customer, now in my 3rd year, w/3yrs remaining on my extended 5yr plan; I'm truly leery of the offer as I'm not sure they'll really transfer my remaining years of original service to the new devise, or that they won't charge me an additional port forward cost to keep my existing number. BUT for those missing the email offer... here you go.

Guess the only way to really be sure is to bite the bullet and start the process! Will keep fellow forum users abreast of my transition.[/url]

While in the upgrade process... I got a DB_Site error and the window closed!

Check my CC for the upgrade and saw two charges, 1) $44.96 and 2) $1.00? Have been waiting for online chat session for 24 minutes to verify the ordering process and here's the transcript:

Quote:
You are now chatting with 'Sam'
Your Issue ID for this chat is LTK554075506167X
Sam: Hello, how may I help you?

Lewis Fowler: hello Sam
Lewis Fowler: I received the special 48hr email offer to upgrade for $34.95 and had an issue while in the process. Since waiting for chat live person service, I received a email confirming my order #TS1######26. I'm wondering about the transfer process that the email described? Since I received an error while completing my order and didn't get further How will my existing account transfer over w/remaining 3yrs of service? Or that my existing phone would be ported to the new devise? Please advise.

Sam: One moment please...
Sam: I appreciate your patience.
Sam: Once you received the package, Just plug the device and enter the registered email address and password, select the magicJack you want to replace with the new one and everything on that jack gets transferred.

Lewis Fowler: that sounds wonderful... is that why the email showed no attached phone number to the new devise?

Sam: You can actually do that during the registration or reactivating of the new device, Lewis.

Lewis Fowler: Well then... thanks for the prompt service! Can't wait to get the new jack Smile Thanks for all your help.

Sam: You are most welcome and have a great weekend!
Thank you for stopping by to chat, I hope I did a good job at addressing your concerns. Thanks again!

Lewis Fowler: have a great weekend too!

End transcript...

We'll see in a few days when I get the devise. Keeping my fingers crossed that all will work out.

Your 48 hours may be up. But it appears, like the earlier 1/2 off offer, that they are spreading out the offer over their customer base. Notice that fowlerbills received his offer just late last night.

It's MagicJack, hell I don't think anyone knows for sure with them.

I do know that they staggered the "48 hours to act" emails to MJ users to get 1/2 off the Plus when it first came out. I don't remember exactly, but it was 2-3 days after the first ones were posted here before I received mine. I assume it's so that their ordering system isn't overwhelmed. It appears that's what they are doing again this time, but who knows. I still haven't received mine. Maybe their software has detected that I'm forwarding all my MJ calls to GV and have deemed me non-worthy. Crying or Very sad

As with most things associated with MJ, it's a little vague.

The way I read it, you buy the Plus at 1/2 price and you get the standard 1 year with it. At some time during registration you get the option to transfer, or not transfer, your "years" from your regular MJ to the Plus.

Does the fact that they specifically say "years" mean that only users with multiple years of service left get to transfer time? Or if you have 9 months left on your regular MJ, can you transfer it and have 1 year and 9 months on your new Plus.

After a few users post exactly what happens, we will obviously know. But until then, I'm a betting man, and I bet you only get time above 1 year on your regular MJ transferred to the Plus.

It would be interesting to know if those receiving the email have multiple years or less than a year left on their regular MJ.

As previously stated, I'm now in my 3rd year, w/3yrs remaining on my extended 5yr plan (exp. 02/2015). BUT I'm not a betting man, that's why I went to customer service and posted my questions about the process:
Quote:
MJ CSR Sam said, "Once you received the package, Just plug the device and enter the registered email address and password, select the magicJack you want to replace with the new one and everything on that jack gets transferred."

In all honesty... even if I don't get all 3yrs added back, but at least get to keep my original MJ phone number and some +1 for the deal; I'll be a happy camper. I've spent less than $110 (includes this latest $34.95 deal) for phone service, while most of my family members have spent between $675 - $900 for either Vonage or Brighthouse or FiOS!

Just got this today with a link to click:

Dear bla bla bla
Many of the original magicJack customers have requested that their current plan of the original magicJack be transferable to a new magicJack PLUS. We have decided to help you do just that.
We believe that you should have the option of using your magicJack with, or without a computer, and that's why we invented the magicJack PLUS. The new magicJack PLUS is a computer on a chip and can be enhanced in the future with upgrades. It's also the reason we will not be selling the original magicJack by the end of this year and only selling new products and services like the magicJack PLUS.
You can now choose to move all of your years from your original old magicJack to a new magicJack PLUS. If you decide you still Love your old magicJack you may simply purchase a new magicJack PLUS which comes with a free year of service and keep your original magicJack. It's your decision whether to transfer or not transfer the years and you can decide at registration so there's nothing to fret over now.
With the new magicJack PLUS, you can use your magicJack just like you always have or just plug it into the wall and Internet(without computer). Now you have a choice which makes it even easier to use.
This will be the your final chance to upgrade at such a reduced price (half price) and this offer is only available for the next 48 hours. Of course, you will also receive our thirty day Free trial.
Please note: We have limited amount of magicJack PLUS in the warehouse and you might have to wait if you don't act now, so please don't delay.
We continue to be incredibly proud of our products and services. If you have an Apple device, please download our free app and use your phone number on a iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone, etc. Android app will be out in June.
Thank you so much for being a Loyal customer and we thank you for the opportunity to help you save hundreds of dollars.

Dan Borislow
CEO magicJack, Inventor and Founder

Received the MJ+ today after responding to the 48 hour offer. Registration and transfer of the existing MJ phone number was simple and painless. I had just over 2 years of time remaining on the original MJ and that's all I have now. In other words, I did not get an additional year with the MJ+, just the time that I already had. Surprised? Not me.

I have the same experience as Bill. The registration/transfer process was surprisingly painless! The number and time all came over but I lost the additional year but if it must be it must be.

I noticed that some account settings got blown out, like call forwarding - but that was easy enough to re-establish. Auto-renew got turned on - again easy to turn off.

I unplugged MJ+ from my computer and then uninstalled the software. I tested the MJ+ hooked directly to my router. It takes roughly 15 seconds to "boot up" - there's a little yellow/orange light that will blink when it is ready to go. I tested some phone calls - incoming and outgoing - and all seems well. The device gets a little warm but nothing too out of the ordinary - it's not burning hot or anything (after a couple of hours on the phone, anyway).

The volume is a little low, which others have complained about. I know one can increase the volume if running through the computer, but I'm not sure if anyone has figured out a way to increase the volume if running MJ+ directly through the router. If so, I'd love to know!

Also, does the dropped call issue apply to inbound calls, outbound calls, or both? I had a pretty long outbound call (about 1.5 hours) and it was perfectly fine. I am aware there is a solution to roll the firmware back to the October release, but does anyone know if this is really still necessary? Do calls get dropped for inbound only or for outbound only? Or is it both? (Sorry to ask the same question again!).

Anyway, I am pleasantly surprised at how easy this was - as the first time around (several years ago) I had quite a time figuring out how to get MJ to run without taking over my computer! I love being able to use this without a computer at all now - brilliant!

So I just wanted to share my positive experience so far (hopefully there won't be any surprises when it comes time to bill my credit card - that could be another story, huh?) and if anyone has any answers about low volume through router and/or dropped calls, I'd love to hear it! Thanks!

Wonder when current owners of MJ and MJ+ will receive another 48 hour offer for next "new" MagicJack:

C&P:

" You are receiving this email because you signed up to receive specific
updates regarding new products from MAGIC JACK.

We are pleased to report that VocalTec and magicJack have announced
plans to release a new magicJack product called the magicJack Wifi
sometime in the neat future. Please see our release below for more
information regarding the magicJack Wifi.

We will notify you immediately via this email list when the magicJack Wifi
is released so that, as a loyal magicJack user, you will have first chance to
purchase it.

Press Release

MagicJack WiFi is the latest addition to VocalTecs stable of
VoIP telephone devices. It is the third generation version of the device and
provides the same features as the first and second generation devices, along
with several improvements.

Like the first two products, the magic Jack Wi Fi will provide users with
local and long distance calling to anywhere in the United States and Canada
for $29.95 per year (as low as $19.95 in some cases). The difference however
will be in how the device operates due to its new TJ980 chipset.

With the first one users had to plug the device into their computers USB port
and keep their computer running 24/7 in order to make or receive calls. With
the updated plus device users were able to move it over to a high-speed port
on their modem or router. With the original device, involving a computer caused
a number of complications that were tied to the performance of each individual
persons computer. Once the MJ+ was released the majority of these issues were
resolved, but still with its relianceon being hooked up to another device,
complications arose.

Luckily for us the WiFi version has totally eliminated these concerns due to its
802.11n access point feature. With this new version you will only need an electrical
outlet and a regular phone. Simply configure the device so that it connects with your
wifi internet signal, hook the device up to your phone and into an electrical outlet
and you will be ready to go. Besides an internet connection the new magicJack
will be able to work independently and not rely on the performance of another
gadget. Several other improvement included in the new chipset are a dedicated
high speed local bus for WiFi RF, LCD panel display interface, seamless
interface to DECT phone, video compression engineer, auto audio gain control,
a power saving sleep mode, and built in double clock DDR memory. Also
included will be a doubling of processing power, memory size, and memory
speed.

It will also be able to be used as a access point by plugging the unit into
a modem, and for cable and satellite boxes allowing them to receive WiFi for
video on demand. MagicJack Wi-Fi is expected to be released sometime during
the second half of 2012 and will be the same size as the Plus. Price estimates
have not been released for the new device yet but the per year subscription rate
is expected to stay at or near the $29.95 per year. As far as the release date
goes dont hold your breath on it. In the past VocalTec has been very unreliable
in meeting their planned released dates for new products.

Sincerely,
The magicJack Newsletter

Seeing as how historically the time difference between when MJ says a product will be available and when it actually is available can be anywhere from 3 months to infinity, I would be surprised if it could be purchased any time in 2012.
