We had been using one of those Belkin Pre N routers. At the time it was a new concept of getting etended coverage and seemed to work fine but when we attmpted to use MJ on the network we were getting audio drop outs. We had a 13Mbt Download and 1.1Mbt Upload cable connection, so I knew that was not the problem. So I changed the Belkin to a Linksys WRT54G and loaded DD-WRT v24 VOIP firmware on it. Worked like a champ. To be honest the Linksys with its stock firmware would have probably fixed the audio issues, but DD-WRT is really the most advanced firmware upgrade out there. I am amazed at how many cool tricks the DD-WRT firmware offers. Give it a try.

I'm using a Linksys BEFSR41 router and have not had to change/adjust a thing. Worked 100% from day one.

Amen to the DD-WRT. You just have to love software that actually works!

BTW, are you related to the Elephant Man? How about Jay Leno?

That firmware hack sounds great....

For the person who wants out of the box goodness, I must brag on my router, the DLINK DIR-655

It really has improved my network with its QOS functionality and it is in AUTOMATIC mode. Out of the box it just worked. After getting this router I can surf, run torrents, talk on MJ, and run MOZY online backup all the time and the router manages it all very well. By far the best router out of about 6-8 different ones I have owned.

Please tell me more about this. Do I just go to the dd-wrt website and download and follow installation guides?

Start on their site and do some reading first. DD-WRT Home Page
Then look at their WIKI page: DD-WRT - Wiki

The new Linksys routers have an extra step involved, but work fine. You just need to be careful which version router you use, and choose the correct version firmware. DD-WRT is really a great upgrade.
