I will admit I don`t know much about MagicJack (VOIP, Skype, etc..) only what I`ve seen on the infomercial late at night and what I have read here & other sites. Yes I have tried the search for the answer to my following question!
The problem I got is I need to make toll free 800 number calls from Canada to the US but the problem is the US 800 number does not work from Canada. Does this have something to do with ANI?
Will MagicJack allow me to make these types of calls? Or will it still recognize the the call originating from Canada and not go through? |

Hi,
Actually MJ could be your solution. It's weird that US companies limit their 1-800 numbers to work in the only in the US when there are 33 million Canadians, a portion of whom are on the phone or Internet buying stuff mail order from south of the border.
Anyways I digress. When you are making a call from your MJ, the call appears to originate from a US location (because you can only get US numbers at this time). When I try to call a US based 1-800 number from Canada using my land line and the recording says "this call cannot be made from your calling area", I pick up the MJ and make the call. And it works.
Let me know what 1-800 number you need to phone and I'll try it for you. If it's confidential, you can send me a private message. |

Hi,
I did two tests. First I tested dialing from a landline. As you mentioned in your PM, I get two rings then a busy signal.
For the second test, dialing from Canada Using MJ with a number based in NYC, I get through to the company. There is an automated responder, I can press 8 for Spanish. Otherwise, the system stays in English. It's one of those automated systems where I say what I want, such as "tech support". I tested working through some of the menus and with MJ I can successfully say what I want and work through the menus. I went down a few layers into tech support.
So confirmed, MJ can successfully dial the number you sent me.
