|
|
Is it worth the time and effort to try and purchase a used MagicJack. Read through a few of the posts on here and someone stated they did purchase a used on and then was asking questions on the use.
Person claims they tried it out, went with another VoIP provider and was offering to sell it on a local transaction.
I'd like a 2nd MagicJack, but want it to work with a local MagicJack phone number. And if I had to pay for the 1 year of service the used one is not a deal at all. |

You would get stuck with their number and the email/password they used to set it up. You could get them to change the email before they sent it to you, but you would still need to pay MJ to change your phone number, and you will only have whatever time is left of their year.
It doesn't seem like a good idea to me. |

If their number was still attached and local#, then that would be OK. I'd want another number anyway. My existing MJ is an early one from 3 years or so back and they did not have any local number available. The email change could be dealt with if that is all that would need done. I would not pay MJ for the change. I can get a new Jack for the cost of this used one plus the change fee.
I guess wait to hear from them and see how interested they are in selling. And proving they still have an account and number tied to it. |

If the math is working in my head, the cost of the used plus the MJ charge for the number change, if needed, is the same as a new device, so they are asking $30 for the used? Way too much, unless they have almost a full year left of service, and then you are only saving $10 if you don't need to change the number.
Seems more practical to buy a new one off the shelf so you can return it if it doesn't work and get your full year of service. But the choice is obviously yours. |

Well I was using the $39.99 retail price, with a small padded item to make the order over $40 and a $5 off discount coupon for the purchase price (net is $35) through the 28th of this month.
I had not heard from the guy on the service time left- but would not do the deal if it did not have something pretty close to 11 months on it. He just replied to my offer to meet and some more info:
Quote: | It was activated last year and needs renewal. For $25 we can meet at a Starbucks, I'll sign up for a 1-year renewal, then after the renewal is complete we'll transfer account information to your email. |
So looks like he is recouping $4 dollars for the used device ($19.95 plus the excise taxes for about another $1), and I can test it out after he renews it and do the transfer on the account. |
