I've been getting a graphic on my MJ ad window saying the rates are going up in 2012. Is this true? This is what it says...

Scheduled for January 20, 2012
Must act now before January 20, 2012

1yr 19.95 increasing to 29.95

2yrs 39.90 increasing to 59.90

5yrs 69.95 increasing to 99.75

Except they now limit you to 3000 minutes a month both incoming AND outgoing combined... and if you go over even one minute, they ban you for life.

Yep NetTalk is the way to go.... NOT....

The only problem is how long will they continue to produce and sell the "old" magicjack vs. magicJack +? I had a netchat with their tech support folks regarding the rate increase. If you sign up you *can't* transfer the service to a magicJack +. Hence if you're current magicJack drops dead you have to replace it with the same version to take advantage of the extra $$ you shelled out. If you move to the +, you lose the extra years. The tech support chat person claimed that original magicJack is still being produced and sold and they didn't know what/if production will cease. So, its sort of like playing craps by signing up for extra years of service.

Once both rates are the same maybe they will allow the transfer of MJ years in due time to the MJ+ if the additional years were purchased after Jan 20, 2012 at the raised prices. It wouldn't make sense to deny transfers if the service for MJ was bought for the same price as MJ+. Of course, they will probably always deny a transfer if the additional MJ years were bought for a discounted price when compared to the rates of the MJ+.

Has anyone renewed using this promo?

What is the new expiry date?

Knowing this company's history I wouldn't be surprised if the new expiry date was Jan 20 2013.

You might save $10 on the annual subscription but forfeit the remaining months in the current subscription.

For more than a year now they have correctly calculated the correct expiration date when adding years to the MJ or MJ+

MJ got put on notice by the BBB for tampering with the expiration date.

Yes, they added a year to my original expiry date, not to Jan 20th.
