|
|
...and other numbers, within the same area code, gets dropped.
Background:
I have been using magicJack for 3 years and do not have any compliments for the money...the little inconveniences I received was mainly due to cable connections and living in an apartment were as cable strengths fluctuate depending upon how many neighbors are online at the same time. I make no apologies to my family when they call during that time and I have to hang up. I refuse to pay up to $100 per month as many of them are with contracts that places them in bondage for 2 to 3 years.
Okay, now back to the topic at hand:
I recently moved to a new area code, but continue to use the original number I signed up with MJ. Before the move I used cable as my Internet service, I now have broadband (in a home not an apartment) and my phone clarity is awesome...any time of the day.
Prior to moving I was calling a specific number in the new area code with some issues, like instant dropped calls, but able to redial and get the connections. I tried other numbers in that area code, some I was able to get and others not.
Now, I am moved into that area code and get dropped calls from some numbers and success with others in the same area code.
Some solutions that I tried was to change my router's IP address to reflect my new address..but this caused "no Internet connection". I had to disable my Linksys router (until I'm able to reset it) and run the broadband directly into my CPU. I tried a couple of numbers and again, some I was able to call and some I was not.
If any one has any solutions, that makes sense, please share.
Also, I could use some ideas to reset my linksys to the original IP, hoping that it'll be auto-detected as I didn't write down the original IP that was in the Admin area of the router.
Thank you in advance. |

You can find in these forms MJ users are having trouble with some area codes.
As for your router take a look at DD-WRT or Tomato firmware, I went with DD-RTW for my liknsys WRT54GS. Once I flashed it MJ worked much better.
Here's the link for DD-WRT.

I've visited the link, thank you...but must say that I'm not familiar. Though I like messing around, don't think I want to play round with this one since MJ is our "main" home phone. I've been in chat with MJ to no avail. I thought perhaps if I connect my DSL line directly into my computer then try calls then, but my Ethernet line doesn't fit into any of my computer lines. There are ports for regular phone lines, but not for an Ethernet, unless I'm doing something wrong. My system (Gateway PC) is only about 5-6 years old...should have a built-in modem.
Anyway, I've learned that I can receive or make calls into certain prefixes within the area code.
I'm taking more suggestions, pls. |
