When I'm talking on the phone, or more likely just leaving a voice mail, I can hear an old-fashioned ringing when someone is trying to call me. Is there a way to immediately accept that incoming call, even if it interrupts or drops the call I'm on?

Same as a regular phone with call waiting, hit the Flash button ( if no button named flash try the Talk button)...

Ah, I get it. Except that my phone is a circa 1984 push-button with nothing more than a * key and a # key beyond the numbers. Am I out of luck?

Simple. Just tap the on/off hook button ( the cradle where you hang up the phone) quickly and it should do the trick...
