|
|
This forum has been so useful to me for researching going from an MJ to an MJ+. Thanks for all of your help. Here is a copy of the chat I had today with CS about switching from MJ to MJ+ and on porting a landline number.
You are now chatting with 'Udele'
Your Issue ID for this chat is xxxxxxxxxxx
Udele: Hello, how may I help you?
StanR: I already have the original MJ. When I log into my.magicjack.com I see a MagicJack available for sale at $39.95. Is this the MJ original or the MJ Plus?
Udele: This is magicjack device
Udele: Magicjack plus cost is $ 69.95
StanR: The original or the new Plus version?
Udele: Original device. You can place order for magicjack plus by dialing the toll free number 1-800-509-1709 and through our website www.magicJack.com .
StanR: So if I want to order the Plus version I cannot do it from my.magicjack.com? I must order from front page of site?
Udele: Yes, it can be purchased from magicjack site
StanR: I understand I can add the MJ Plus to my existing account and MJ phone number. Will the year subscription with the MJ Plus add to my existing subscription for which I have already paid?
Udele: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Udele: If you wish, you can register magicjack plus in the existing account and you can use the same old number with magicjack plus device too . But we can not transfer the service from old magicjack device to new magicjack plus device
Udele: You will get one year of service with magicjack plus device only
StanR: But I just paid a one year renewal on my exisitng MJ. That doesn't seem right.
StanR: If this is the same account.
Udele: Stan, Once you register magicjack , you will have 2 magicjack subscription.
StanR: But on the same account.
Udele: If you wish, you can use the same number on 2 devices in same account but we can not transfer the service
StanR: So both devices will work even with the same phone number?
Udele: Yes
StanR: OK. Can I port my home landline number from ATT to MJ?
Udele: Yes, if you wish, you can ask to transfer your other service phone number to magicjack now
StanR: I am not ready yet today. What are the fees?
Udele: The cost of porting another number to magicjack account is $ 19.95 plus taxes
StanR: One time fee only? No month by month fee?
Udele: Yes, this is one time fee for porting another number to magicjack
StanR: OK. I will go order MJ Plus and try it out. Then later port the number.
Udele: Yes, sure
StanR: Thanks for your help. Bye.
Udele: Thank you for stopping by to chat, I hope I did a good job at addressing your concerns. Please take a second to answer a one question survey about the service I provided. Please click the "close" button on the top right of this screen and the survey will appear. Thanks again! |

Note that it has been reported in the forum that it is now also available at Radio Shack. I do know it is on the RS website. If it's available in a RS store, that should mean the other retailers like WalMart should be close behind.
If I was buying a Plus, which I am passing on when my regular renewal comes up in 2 weeks, I would buy it at Radio Shack or wait until another retailer has it available if I had no RS close by. You will save the shipping charge and it makes any returns for unhappy customers so much easier. |

I went to radio shack yesterday and they didn't have the plus, only the original mj.
I bet when radio shack starts carrying it in stores they will have the exclusive on it. |

Is that the way it was when the regular MJ first came out? One retailer had it exclusively for a while? I don't have a clue.
I do know if it was my business decision, if I was giving an exclusive deal to a retailer, Radio Shack would be near the bottom of a long list. Maybe above Walgreens. WalMart or BestBuy would be at the top of the list. |

My cousin is not a buyer for radioshack to make it clear. |

Geeze, if it's true, I wonder what knucklehead at MJ got the kickback from RS on that moronic (just an opinion) decision. |

|
|
Well Day 1 with MJ+ was a mixed bag.
I got MJ+ working on my old MJ account that I haven't used for 2 years as I could never keep the USB dongle active enough to make it dependable. So I put MJ+ on that account and while I got credit for a year of service, I lost the 3 years remaining on the original MJ (I actually bought 2 MJ's as the first was so poorly reliable).
So in reading of tech support and no phone number and the widespread dissatisfaction with MJ support, I'm bummed. But I'll give the online chat a try tomorrow when I presume they may be open.
Then today, I tried to use MJ+ and I got an error code 300x don't remember it but unplugged the MJ+ from the wall wart and it went back online. If I need to do this frequently, then MJ+ on Ethernet will end up being just as useless as the USB FOB.
Hopefully someone has some secret sauce to fix billing credit and dropouts. |

mikeps,
While I can't help you with your technical problems since I don't have the mJ+, I can tell you that you will not get your subscription time on your original mJ moved to your mJ+. mJ makes you purchase the time on each device individually, your old mJ will work along with your mJ+ for as long as there is time left on each of your subscriptions. You can use both your mJ and mJ+ to make and receive calls for that phone number.
This is just another reason why I feel the 5 year subscription plan is a bad idea for most users.

Thanks Dave for the billing info. I won't bother then. I was going to get the 5 year special but I agree, it looses it's value if you change the hardware out. It appears they penalize folks when upgrading their hardware.
The MJ+ is still connected after almost 24 hours, so maybe that early lost connection was an aberration. Still a good deal to get away from the dongles...if it is dependable.

Do not upgrade to the plus model if you have an existing account as you will not be able to recover the years and any International on the old device
They are unbending so if you bought 5 years good bye no credit |

Probably not a rumor, looks like your cousin has good sources. The website FAQ on where to buy one, lists the MJ website and RadioShack.
What were they thinking? Nothing against RadioShack, I always liked the place. But the last time I was in one was when I bought my 100k ohm resistor for my MJ over a year ago. The 2 that are still left in my metro area are in less than desirable strip malls. The added profit margin that they must have squeezed out of RS can't account for the total lack of foot traffic in their stores. On the other hand, maybe they knew it wasn't quite ready for prime time. |

I've seen the regular MJ in both their stores and on-line. I still can't find the Plus on their website. Will have to check out my local store in a few days. |

And once again. You're posting this in the magicJack Plus section why? Are you a total idiot, or just play one on TV? |

Nothing "tough guy" about it. I just don't know how repeated off-topic and off-product postings can be classified as anything but idiocy. |

|
|
Here is a chat I had this am and I am still confused.
Becky: Hello, how may I help you?
Ed: Greetins, Becky, I have two standard MagicJacks and is valid till 2013. can I add a new MJ plus to my account and use the same number?
Becky: Yes you can not to worry.
Ed: Wat is the cost of the new MJ plus added to my account and using the same numbr?
Becky: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Becky: Device = $69.95
Becky: 1-year renewal = $29.95
Becky: 5-year renewal = $99.75
Ed: Thank you, what is the cost to transfer current Vonage number to new MJ plus?
Becky: The cost for transfer number is $19.99 initial payment while the yearlyl fee is $9.99
Ed: So, what is the yearly fee for a transferred number $29.99 + an additional $9.99 per year, for a total of $39.89?
Ed: per year?
Becky: The $19.99 you will pay it now after a year you will pay the $9.99
Ed: each year I have to pay an additional $9.99 + $29.99/yr for service?
Becky: no just the $9.99
Ed: There was an offer for loyal customers to purchase the MJ Plus for $34.99, is that offer still available?
Becky: I am afraid it was not available anymore
Ed: Thank you
Becky: Is there anything else I may help you with today?
So, I s the yearly fee for a transferred number $9.99, or $29.99, or $39.99????????? |

Magicjack with the new magic plus has really been an a** about how it treats it's customers. To not be able to transfer over a subscription to a new product really is stupid on their part. For a customer who has trusted them enough to buy a product and add 5 years of service to it it's a slap in the face when they tell you, that you have to repurchase everything. Doesn't make sense to me why they would do something like that. Basically it's like a screw you to all of the old customers who had enough faith in them to purchase a 5 year subscription. |
