Used for year with only one lost day trouble shooting when their network had issues. I unplugged last night as it was interfering with dvd operation. Today plugged in and only getting message: plug mj in. and, No load.
I tried a system restore with no luck and chat with support staff. They made me format the drive part of mj and run upgrade exe, but same error. I am wondering if upgrade exe isn't working because I mapped out (my computer>manage>drives) mj to be s and t. I tried to unmap and on reattach they don't grab any drive letter. |

Any chance that's the "must plug MJ into USB..." message? If so, I get that frequently on my notebook. Search these forums for "must plug usb" and see if there's any help. For me, I have to reformat and update, as per MJ's instructions. Works for me. Otherwise maybe your MJ is fried? |

I tried the format and update.exe.
I noticed after running the update the t: drive is still labeled phone and no programs are on it. Is this true for you? If not, wondering is the update exe has some bug in it that makes it unable to find the drive letter. Say, they always expect it to be first or second available drive after cd drive.
As I stated, originally it was grabbing e: and L: this was confusing, so I mapped it to s and t: . I can remap it to other letters, but cannot figure out to remove and get it to auto grab a letter on unplug/replug. Maybe, this is reason, or maybe not. Maybe some registry entry on first run specifying MJ drive letter, then I installed a dvd drive which is now taking up the letter. I noticed programmers are brain dead when it comes to designing a resilient program capable of surviving windows crashes, drive swaps and additions. Like they never heard of a relative variable or if not exist checking. |

having a similar prob I have mentioned here a few times this wk - sw froze on hang up and from that point all I got was the red screen though windows beeped properly on plug in and plug out. Works fine on my laptop - just red window on the desktop. Both have same OS and nearly the same apps.

This is ticking me off. I spent all weekend trying to fix this with their support and they are too inept to help. I need email for their sw coders.
Notes: It works on cousins computer so MJ is working; uninstalling in device manager, upgrade exe, deleting apdata mjusbsp dir no: all noluck. What I am noticing is no real exe's are being installed in the appdata mjusbsp other than splashes. My windows dir is on g: naturally, as anyone who goes through drive upgrades would not be on c:
Other thoughts would be to buy a powered usb router and try. I have no other ideas other than to demand one of their programmers to email me. The real time chat isn't working, they just keep recommending same thing. Also, I am wondering how to totally erradicate all registry and entries, either to start from scratch, but no uninstaller do I see. |

You have absolutely no way to interface with any employee, coder, etc. from MJ. The apps don't reside on the MJ but on the C drive. I have vista and the apps are in \appdata\roaming\mjusbsp - which of course is where data belong and not the apps (which should be in program files) but they don't seem to stick to any windows standards anyway.
I have not had the time to figure out what is interfering with teh sw's ability to recognize the MJ. It was working before so either one of the updates caused the error or value on the C drive or in the registry -- its not in the MJ (cause it works fine on the laptop) and it likely not hardware because it used to work on the desktop.
I used to evaluate technology professional for Exxon for the last 19 of my 23 years there and this has to be the worst written, least standardized and least supported software I have ever seen in a windows environment. If I had the bucks for unlimited minutes on my cell and an alarm system that worked VOIP without purchasing anything additional, I would stop using MJ.
But don't expect things to get better -- they are on a low margin shoestring budget and as long as their user population continues to invest in the yearly extensions, they are not motivated to increase staff or quality (IMHO). |

If the exes are installing in the ap data sub dir, then clearly they arent on my system-neither automatically or with.upgrade exe. I need to get a zipped copy of a correct install and see if that works. NAturally without any config files that point to a specific user.
Anyone else with this issue have windows on drive other than c |

so i found this http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/how-to-use-the-magicjack-with-skype-and-a-cordless-phone-t5945.html i did what he said and skype and the ip phone found the mj usb. HMMM..... so just for sh*ts and giggles i ran setup from the cd drive of mj, and wala reinstalled loaded up and now got to do all my contacts again, but hey better then waiting for a new mj. reininstalling and reformatting the mj always seem to work for me for a while until the red screen/window problem happensr. I have been regularly backing up my contacts file from the mj folder specifically for situations where I need to start from scratch.
Only seem to have the problem on this desktop. If I plug it into the laptop (with same OS and patches and almost the same software), never have the problem. |

I tried already to run upgrade.exe from drive did you run a different file than that from the cd drive on mj? |

Got it working, but not sure exactly cause, if registry or port related.
I bought a usb powered hub; same error. So power not the issue. I have 5 onboard usb ports and none will work with mj or mj through hub.
Then I bought a usb pci card, and plugged it in; it downloaded needed software and started working.
I know it is not a power issue. The fifth port is on front of machine, there are two ports--each set on differing places on mother board-- ,so, it may be likely that, since all ports had at one time been working with mj, a registry entry was made, which was corrupted last friday. Only a new usb pci card could supply a new usb port never seen by the registry. Or, perhaps, despite fact all my other usb devices work with onboard usbs, they lack something MJ needs in a usb (not power, since tried hub), but the software is not properly written to tell us what is missing.
Either way, this is a software issue to be fixed on their end! |
