| Surely you're tongue in cheek on this one. The only problem with that is the fact that we aren't the only ones that have nuclear weapons. Sure, it will save a few thousand soldiers, but kill millions of civilians because of the global policy of mutual assured destruction. MAD also does not take into account the millions who will die as the result of radiation and other side effects caused by nuclear weapons such as the manifestation of radiation induced illnesses that have the ability to travel in the jet stream thanks to the potency of our warheads. |

| I can't think of one historic example of any nation at war to be compelled to surrender when their civilian population is spared. |

Actually, they did. The parties flipped during the turn of the century elections.
As for the civilian population, it's not so much theirs I would worry about. Imagine losing entire metro areas like Chicago, Dallas, New York, etc. We would suffer as much or more than the enemy because we have more to lose. It gets even scarier when we realize that their bombs actually work. |
