I ordered the MJ directly from their website this afternoon. On the advice of others, I purchased a $50. gift card, and used this during checkout. The money has not been taken from the card as of this evening.
One thing I can attest to- the checkout procedure can be misleading. On the last or 2nd to last page, it says to click on a certain window, which wasn't there on my site (and no, nothing was blocking it).
Anyway, I will update after the MJ is delivered. I hope it works as well as some have said!

Why would someone recommend a gift card?
All I can think of is to avoid the commonly reported problem where MJ charges people before the 30 days have elapsed. But, if you pay $50 for a gift card.... (blink, blink) what's the difference?

Why does it matter whether they charge the gift card now or in 30 days? You've already spent $50 (for the gift card).

Mark-
On the recommendation of others, and after reading that MJ had taken more money than authorized to take for the initial fee- the gift card was used.
Pretty straightforward. By using the $50. gift card, MJ cannot take more than $50. period. |

That's the first I've heard that complaint. If they take more money, you just dispute it with your credit card company. That seems like it would be as much work as buying a gift card.
I suspect the complaints about "taking too much money" involve people who use debit cards (which are charged immediately), or who purchased extra years (or expedited shipping) and didn't realize those things would be charged immediately.

I don't see what the harm is in using a little preventative measure; yes, I could dispute the issue with my CC company- but considering the times, would I want to?
Not sure if you have read some/any of the negative complaints about MJ on this forum- I have. And no, I'm not being paranoid.
MJ working great so far, by the way. |

Mark-
That's not the only horror story on this site.
I chose to use the AMEX gift card; I was not "told" to do so, by the way. For a company that rates an "F" on the BBB site (I verified this), I figured I would err on the side of caution. Seems to have worked.

I ordered the mj with my debit and I promptly sent it back as it did not meet my needs. I shipped it back 1 week after receiving it. After 30 days they billed my debit card. I promptly contacted them and I was told that the did receive it back and that my card would be refunded in 3 days. That was 10 days ago.
After reading some of the post here and on other sites I am now disputing the changes.
Wish I had researched this more before I bought it. |

A pre authorization hold is not the same as a charge it like when you rent a car just checking to see if u have enough money to cover gas n scratches.
i personally have had a $46 and a $50 precharge at the same time from MJ that fell off after a couple of days. |

Not sure which post you're replying to. In the case of debit cards, pre-auths must reserve the money just like the money was paid to the merchant immediately. There's no credit associated with a debit card. The bank has to reserve the money from other use. Otherwise, whenever the real charge comes through it would be possible for the money to be unavailable. In that case the pre-auth would be meaningless.
