Magic jack works great on my new imac but each time I come out of sleep mode magicjack is on the screen saying ready to call but I have to unplug the device and plug it back in again to get a dial tone.restart from the menu does a restart but still no dial tone.Must unplug and replug which is a pain.
On my pc every time I came out of standby i just had to click on magicjack icon for it to restart and get dial tone.anyone have an easier way to make magicjack work after sleep mode?
Thanks
Matt

This has been discussed here before ( I think by me, and I don't own a Mac). Since the MJ won't work on a PC running Windows in sleep mode I would say the same applies to a Mac..

same here!!! we know it won't work while sleeping, but after awakening from sleep, everything seems ok with MJ, except there is no dial tone until we replug the MJ in.....so any shortcuts or such around this would be great Smile

Same on a PC with Windows. That is what I meant by it not working in, and maybe I should have also said coming out of, sleep mode.

except on windows you just have to click on the icon and it restarts itself and you get a dial tone.On a Mac you get no dial tone unless you unplug and plug back in again

Even stranger is if you have preference setup to have mac go to sleep on its own and wake up when you move mouse your magicjack along with dialtone works fine,
If you select sleep from apple menu, when you wake up computer magicjack is on but no dial tone until you unplug, replug.Mac support says both of these sleep modes are the same so why does magicjack need to be replugged if its put to sleep using menu and not if it goes to sleep as an energy saving preference?

I am having this same problem, all of a sudden, on my Macbookpro (OS X version 10.6.5)

I can make calls, but all of a sudden, I have no dial tone, nor can I hear anything over the laptop's speakers if I unplug the phone. I have tried rebooting and it doesn't help. I see people mention just unplugging/plugging their magicjack back in. I thought you had to eject it first?
Thanks for any advice...

So are you saying you can make calls even with no dial tone?

PostPosted: Wed Jan 05, 2011 10:11 am    Post subject: No dial tone on Macbook pro 10.6.5 with Magicjack - solved! Reply with quote

Hi! I was in the middle of typing a reply, when I suddenly was able to solve the problem.

Prior to this episode - if I plugged in a portable phone or unplugged it to use the laptop, apparently the Magicjack would just switch devices automatically.

This time, I had to go into volume/headset control and manually switch from telephone to headset/other, in order to "talk" over the laptop speakers.
I'm just thrilled I figured it out! But I am curious now, as to why Magicjack (or the Mac) ceased switching devices automatically.

Thanks for contacting me!

Still confusing since Ive recently added speakers to my imac connected through the headphone jack. After coming out of sleep mode I still get no dialtone in my phone but I can dial out using magicjack screen touch pad and hear call through the speakers. When I switch back to telephone from headset i still get no dial tone in phone.I must plug and unplug the dongle.
