I recently purchased the MJ+ and will be using it attached to my PC or with the PC client and no actual phone IF I can get it to install. I am about to return it within the 30 day window. I have tried to contact support through the chat client and got bumped up three times and tried all sorts of things to get it to install so this is my last resort.

I have an HP HDX 9000 laptop bought in 2008, not new but not that old either
Running Vista, not the best but it's what I have
There are 4 USB ports and none of them will install the driver for the mass storage device.
I downloaded the PC client and it puts a splash screen up requiring me to plug the device in to continue, the device still does not install.
I plugged the device into a different laptop and it loaded fine. It does work, not defective.
Is there a place where I can download the driver? A google search only takes me to the crazy "let us scan your PC and update your drivers, just install this software first" sites that I don't trust.

I'll have to check again but I think there is only about 2 weeks left before I return it for my money back.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, when purchased there was a 30 day money back guarantee so I will get my money back if the unit is unusable by me on this PC.

Vista was very problematic for *many* MJ users. Try disabling your Windows firewall, any other pc-based firewall software that you might have installed and any anti-virus software as well. Then Try installing your MJ the usual way. If it works, then try restarting all of your firewall/anti-virus software. If that doesn't work, consider upgrading to Windows 7 (even XP is better than Vista).

I keep getting the Device Driver error also... 'Must plug into USB' - well it is, and I've tryed all 6 ports. MJ support logged onto the system - Do they have a clue? They forced a CDRom driver onto the MJ device error on told me to reboot - Guess what, it didn't work. (After reading a few threads, this is the norm for MJ support.)

I just want to resolve the device driver error. I don't need MJ support wandering aimlessly around my system again doing useless things. Until that error is resolved there is no point in MJ support doing anything on my system.

They used MJ removal tool, USB scrub, remove/reinstall drivers, etc etc etc.

The computer is fine with a fresh install. In fact two machines with fresh install of Win7. Power to usb is good. Firewall/Virus scanner disabled etc etc etc. The MJ unit is not faulty, since it worked the day before on another OS.

Is there a solution to the device driver error on Win7? (Without MJ support wasting my time with useless unqualified desktop support.)

Thanks in advance.

(Yes, I know it works fine for some of you. Umm thanx.)

Trying a few devices in the USB port to assure they are functioning
correctly might be in order here. Try a flash drive or two, make sure they
run correctly.
Then follow the MS suggestions to deleting hidden device drivers.
Hidden device drivers don't display unless the device is on and
operational, there is a method to do this in the MS knowledge base.
Also check your regedit for items and hooks that you can delete.

Have you tried installing the driver first by directly downloading it, and then inserting the mJ+ into the USB port?

Where can I download the new MagicJack 2014 drivers?

My Windows 7 Ultimate Dell OEM doesn't recognize it, no matter which USB 2 or 3 ports I use.

Thx!

You may have the new magicJack plus 2014.
According to Ayesha from magicJack chat support:
Quote:
Plug in the new 2014 mj plus in the wall outlet and router and then visit www.mjreg.com and let the video finish for the registration to appear.

There's a movie that shows you how to do it. Once you've followed the directions on the movie, the device becomes available to the internet through your router. The video is replaced by a big blue button that says "To Complete Registration Click Here Now". You can wait until the movie ends, or you can press the orange "I'm ready Let's Go!" button on the right side if your device is already connected.

magicJack servers will automatically find your device on your router and you will be asked to fill out all the particulars for your device and your service. That's as far as I got because I haven't bought the mJ+ 2014.

Once the device is registered, it may then become avialable to your computer when you put it in the USB. If it doesn't, you've got a bum device. Send it back.

I hope this helps.

Ok, thx, I was able to "register it into my account" by just plugging it into the wall jack 110v and connecting it to my home LAN.

One computer didn't work, was on the same LAN, but said MagicJack was not plugged in.

I used another computer, and it sniffed it over the LAN, was able to register, and good to go.

I've not tried to plug it back into the computer's USB port, it works, I'm happy.

(to greenman -- THANK YOU FOR HELPING A NEWBIE!!! : )
