|

Hi,
I tried installing Tonido software http://www.tonido.com on an HP T5710 to see if I can have a low power consumption home file server and home based cloud. I'd attach an external harddrive to the TC for storage. Tonido is a small footprint program that makes your device into a file server plus has applications for blogging, photo sharing, etc. You can access the device from outside your home network too. Instead of storing files in the cloud, I can have them on a 500 GB drive accessible from anywhere.
Tonido sells a hardware plug but it's too expensive to ship to Canada as they only ship by couriers.
On trying a TC, Tonido will install but won't run, says "Failed to load plugin: core.dll".
Anyone tried this or want to give it a try?
-Tony

I've been using a T5720 as a file server for years. Details are here:

I'd never heard of tonido until reading your post. I just downloaded and installed it on my T5720. The install went fine and I had no trouble configuring a tonido account. I just tried it an it works great as cloud access to my file server -- much easier than ftp (at least for my writing partner who needs to access my files).
One note: I replaced the 1 GB dram in my T5720 with an 8 GB, and then installed a full version of XP -- the XPe that is installed on the T5720 by HP is a subset of full XP and lacks certain system software. Also the 1 GB of dram is insufficient to install much in the way of additional software. |

Thanks PTravel,
The key must be to have the full version of XP versus the embedded version. Glad it worked for you.

Hi PTravel,
How is the Tonido software working out? Still using it or ditched it?
