Because of USB power limitations, MJ does not supply as much ringing voltage as a landline or an ATA. It's possible that if connect both phones to MJ using a splitter and turn off the ringer on the one that won't ring anyway, you will be able to talk on it and be alerted by the other.

If the phone that won't ring is so old that it has a mechanical bell, you may be able to get it to work by adjusting the spring to a lighter tension.

Plugging MJ into a powered USB hub may help.

Otherwise, you are probably out of luck.

I had this problem when I bought MJ (about 6 months back).

I replaced my old cordless phone (900MHz) with a new one (5.8GHz) and plugged MJ to my machine through a powered USB Hub, and voila....my phone started ringing.

Hi, Has far as I know the MJ is being work on with up date. A lot of people are buying this MJ. Have you chat with them? Can you make call with your MJ. You know that all new thing have bug in them, Look at Windows and Internet Explorer? You still have 30 days to send it back give it time. It's up to you what you want to do.

This is the second time I heard about Motorola phone having ringing issue with VOIP service. See here for earlier discussion:

My MJ puts out 65Vrms (AC) and both my Uniden 4-handset & Panasonic 4-handset systems ring just fine. Perhaps the Motorola phone needs slightly higher ringing voltage. You could try another cordless phone from Panasonic (my fav) or other favorite brand of yours.

Different Phones have different ringer equivalent values. This is based on the current drawn by an old style phone's bell. Magic Jack does not have much current output capacity and hence only phones with low ringer equivalency numbers will work.

I bought 2 MJ and used the same phone. One ring and the other not ring at all. I think its the MJ problem.

Have you tried with several different phones? If they still don't ring then perhaps the MJ device's built-in voltage converter for ringing output is burnt out due to current overload.

The MJ device that does not ring the phone, does its softphone show incoming call? If it does then perhaps that MJ device also has bad ring voltage converter as well.

If the MJ softphone does not show incoming call then you have incoming call issue.

It shows fine on callerid, but no ring. I'd at least like to have the control panel for MJ ring for me. I could live with that. It does that for the headset but not for the phone.

I have MJ plugged into a USB 2.0 PCI card and this 10 year old Walmart phone rings fine. I guess another option is to buy a USB card instead of a powered hub

Do check MJ: Menu > Volume/Headset Control... be sure "telephone" is selected and NOT "Headset/Other" (unless you're using one), especially after ANY update or tweak -- a couple of recent "updates" incorrectly changed this setting.
