Saw the ad on TV saying with PLUS you don't plug the MJP into a computer. So, since I have an older Mac, G4, I thought this would be my chance to use MJ. Had to buy a router to plug it into and today got it all done but couldn't figure out where to register it and get a number. Did a live chat with MJ and she told me to take the MJ stuff to a friend's house and register it because I have to plug it directly into a computer to register. Seems positively stupid to me. Maybe even with the MJ PLUS, I can't use it without Intel???? |

You also need to connect to a PC or MAC to update the firmware "Lucky You" upgrades.
That is until they update the MJ+ to self update over the Internet connection.
Hope the MJ+ has enough RAM to handle an auto update. |

At the risk of seeming exceedingly dumb, I don't know what is meant by the reply. I'm not the least bit technical. I thought getting the MJ was going to be a simple procedure, but it's been anything BUT. |

Sorry,
When you connect your new MagicJack PLUS device to an Internet connected PC or MAC to register the device it will automatically be upgraded to the latest software (currently version# 2.0.6073.4252) you will see a big green "Lucky You" when this upgrade installs into the MagicJack PLUS device.
At this point you can run the MagicJack PLUS without a computer in stand alone mode.
Some future upgrade may allow the MJ+ device to auto update. |

Since the MJ live chat person told me I need to register the MJ on a friend's computer (because mine isn't Intel so my assumption is that since Intel is needed to plug MJ into the Mac, it needs to be plugged into an Intel computer for registration), is that going to work? I tried it on Wed but neither my friend nor I thought it worked because we weren't sure what password it was asking for. BUT I got an email shortly afterwards on my computer thanking me for registering and giving me an authorization code. I had no idea what to do with THAT, so had another live chat last nite and was told the authorization code is actually a password. WHY do they call it two things? That's not clear! So far, my experience with this has been nothing but difficult and confusing. The ads didn't say I'd have to have a router and not just my modem (so I had to buy one), it didn't explain the difficulty in registering, etc. Tomorrow I'll try again to finish the registration on my friend's computer, but I have a feeling it's not going to work. DOES the MJ PLUS work on an older, non-Intel computer????? |

Windows XP -> Windows7 or MAC is needed.
When you see your phone # at the top of the softpad dialer the MagicJack PLUS is ready for stand alone operation.
copy and paste from the email helps avoid typing errors on the password when registering your MJ+
Good Luck, with finding a computer to use, The MagicJack software can be uninstalled from your friends computer once you see your phone number on the softpad. |

Another question. Once registered on my friend's computer (gonna do this this afternoon), will the softpad show up on MY computer? Is this going to work on my NON-Intel Mac???? |

You might be interested in knowing that after live chatting with a LOT of MJ employees, one of them FINALLY told me that even the MJ PLUS, which advertises, "NEW! No computer required" will NOT work on a NON-Intel Macintosh. I outright asked every one of the live chatters if my problems were because my Mac is not Intel. NOT ONE of them answered me. A couple promised me everything was going to work. Last evening four different chatters told me they'd transfer me to someone who could somehow get into my computer and fix the problem for me, at which time I was cut off while I waited and waited. It seems like the customer service isn't very skilled. One even told me to "Calm down" when I expressed my total frustration over the enormous amt of time and aggravation this was taking. If the FIRST chatter had simply told me I MUST have an Intel computer EVEN THO THEY PROMISE YOU DON'T EVEN NEED A COMPUTER, I'd have simply packaged the MJ up and returned it -- which I'll do on Monday, anyway, but after hours of nonsense with them. |
