MJ crashes after every call. Tried updates, formatting, changing drive letter, updating driver, deleting files etc...no thing works. All this was done with the assistance of MJ tech support. My entire systems freezes up now because of it. Here is the crash log:

Change the date of your system prior to the last update. Changing just the year is sufficient. This should fix your "memory could not be read" issue whick crashes the program. I'm assuming you are running XP SP2. Updating to SP3 should fix the issue as well and should not require you to change the date.

Hmm...first time I've seen the issue w/ Vista, but worth a try. What SP is your Vista machine?

Yes, change your system date in Control Panel to like 2008. Report your results.

Try running the uninstall program available on the mJ website and then upgrade. It's hit and miss, but has worked for some. The last mJ update messed up the contacts as they are now saved on their servers instead of on the mJ device. Hopefully they will fix it with another update.

Please post what Service Pack you are running on Vista. I'm interested if the crash only affects SP1. Currently it is affecting XP SP1 and SP2, but not SP3 users.

Try clearing your calls list (right click the calls list and select delete all calls). That seems to have worked for me.

PostPosted: Tue Jan 19, 2010 8:09 pm    Post subject: MJ crashes after call

MJ crashes after calls...almost immediately. I am running XPe on HP T5700 256/256. Here is the errror:
The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( Application Error ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: magicjack.exe, 1.90.521.2, unknown, 0.0.0.0, 00002fcf.

I also disabled error reporting...but still get the "Tell Microsoft about this"

I posted here because it is similar to the OP issue...but different error /oper sys.

Any help appreciated.

My MJ is not crashing when I make a call but it restarts itself if I bypass the splash screen. It runs fine other than this.

PostPosted: Fri Jan 22, 2010 9:01 am    Post subject: MJ crash after call & can't disable MS Error Reporting

I'm going to reflash my system. Seems like the last changes that I made did me in... However, I'm not sure. If that doesn't work I'll probably try to increase flash and RAM (I'm running 256 & 256 MB).

I've had other issues that come and go, but this one is staying.

This issue combined with the inability to stop error reporting has me hosed. With error reporting...the "Tell Microsoft" pops up and the crashed MJ will not unload, until you manually satisfy the Error Reporting pop up. BTW, I tried the normal way to disable it, I tried enabling it and adding MJ as an exception, and I tried disabling it in registry...no joy.

Well, this may sound odd, but I've heard it works. Start the phone then delete all your call logs.

I've been having the same problem since the upgrade a few weeks ago.
Lucky You! You're getting an upgrade. and also your software's gonna crash after every use now!
I must've spent 2 hours online with tech support..unplugging, updating drivers, etc.. till I just gave up.
Here's hoping deleting the call list fixes it. Thanks for the info!

I'm having the same issues here. I did the tech support thing for around 3 hours.

Same old, same old.

I bought mine in July 2009. It was flawless for the first few months.

I thought back to when I first started having issues. That was the beginning of November 2009. At that time I added a new USB card reader. I thought this may be causing issues so I unplugged it.

I ran the update file a dozen times. Removed the USB CD-ROM drive from the Device manger. Reformatted the MagicJack, rolled Windows back to October 20 something. Un-installed the MJ software. Went through the registry with tech support level 2.
I even tried removing the Java update that happened recently. No Dice.

Tech support offered to send me a new MJ for $10 and I didn't have to mail the old one back. Then their ordering page wouldn't take my credit card.
I have to unplug the MJ and plug it back in to reboot it after every call.
So, I can make a call if it's short I'll get the whole call through. If it's long I'll get the crash, which I ignore, but eventually I'm just talking to myself.

I can share what I've observed here.

Mine started crashing after the update.
Deleting the entire call log fixed it so far.
No changing the system clock was required.
Upgrading to XP Service pack 3 was not required.

When I checked the call log and address book
on my mj drive,
I noticed they had not reflected any changes since the upgrade,
so it appears like the call log AND contacts are now stored in the server.

Customer support always seems to be eager to have us
delete our call logs or contacts.
I wonder if anyone has ever asked mj support to email
them the call log or contact list on the server, before doing so,
and if so, what was the response from mj.

[rant]
Personally, I feel like if deleting our data is always the solution,
due to the way the coded their system,
they have an obligation to email us a copy before we delete.
It's OUR data, not theirs.

And I really don't like them storing it on their end;
violation of privacy big time.
[/rant]

I ran the downgrade this morning and my MJ is running normally again. It wouldn't restart after I made a call but would restart by itself occasionally. Hopefully they'll get all the bugs worked out before the next update.

Running WinXP Home SP2

Deleting the call /contact list seems to have worked for me as well (at lest for this hour)

Mine would shut down after every incoming/outgoing call. Thus far, seems fine, however I've been clearing all logs after each call, so I'm not sure if the list builds again, the problem comes back or not.

I haven't had to delete anything after each call.

Just had to delete the call log one time.

Seems to be working for me, however, I have the proverbial dumb question. Do I need to keep the Call List empty, i.e., periodically delete all calls or after every one? TIA

UPDATE: Never mind. I'm giving up on MJ for a while until they come out with another "Lucky You" upgrade. Right now, nothing seems to work for me.
