When I look at the magicJack dongle, I get a little bit suspicious.
How much of what is going on is happening in the software on the computer and how much is happening in the dongle?
When I look at the dongle, I can't help thinking all of those diodes are there to convince me that the dongle is worth $20 when it probably is just non-functional showmanship.
Any ideas? |

At the very least, it is converting a telephone signal to a USB signal. |

The original MJ is based on this device: http://www.tjnet.com/chips/tiger560C.htm .
Newer units use a higher integration device: http://www.tjnet.com/chips/tiger581.htm .
The overall MJ device looks like a USB sound card with a phone interface. Even if you prevent any MJ software from loading, the device (installed automatically with drivers built into Windows) will work for e.g. playing MP3 files through your phone (they sound terrible). The hardware also emulates a small disk drive and CD-ROM, and contains logic to ring the phone, detect off-hook and DTMF, etc.
All the rest is done in software. |

Now that's a pile of crap. Dan Borislow says he INVENTED the magicjack. This TigerJet is either an impostor or they stole Dan's design. I hope Dan Borislow sues the crap out of TigerJet, those thieving bastards. |

Kylie Borislow should have named her dogs "Tiger" and "Jet". |

Actually, Stewart, Magic Jack is the TigerJet RJ-11 to USB adapter with the Magic Jack logo printed on it. Borislow simply bought a license to make his own version and sell it, most likely.

Then he must have made some modifications to the design, otherwise, he couldn't patent it.
