Permitted call routing and call payment methods from federal prisoners is generally determined by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, not by MJ. In most cases the prisoner must pay for the call up front, and in those cases the call *should* go through ok to a MJ number. In some cases the call is billed to the *receiving* party, but MJ doesn't accept those kinds of calls. The FBP will not allow calls to connect that are paid for in any other manner. |

I suggest you "Google" "magic jack calls from jail" (without the quotation marks) to get some idea of the issues involved.
Aside from MJ refusing collect calls, whether or not a call from a prisoner will go through to a particular MJ number is determined by the prison and/or whichever prisoner telephone service/company they use.
I also suggest that you ask your friend or loved one who is in prison what exactly happens and what exactly they hear when they try to call you at your MJ phone number. Then check with the prison and/or the company that provides its prisoner telephone service to find out what the problem is.
BTW - I'm assuming that your MJ number is a "regular" phone number assigned only to you and for which you must pay $20 or $30 per year (if it's a "free" number it won't go through). |
