I'm sorry, I can't seem to find the model of the phones. But no, they are just ordinary cordless landline phones.

It was a bug with Win XP SP2 that upon detection & installation of an USB Sound device, Windows changes the default Windows sounds to be played through the new USB sound device.

You can download MS patch KB935708 that will not make the new USB Sound device the default device:

Your description of what you did is a bit confusing to me as sound/audio devices aren't usually a selection under program events. The default devices for sound and voice are not on the Sounds tab but on the Audio tab and the Voice tab. Defaults should be your sound card for Audio and MJ for voice ...

Ok I have another idea for you...try using the really old phone cord and see if that helps...

The only really old cord I have, is the curly part that connects the phone and the part you hold and talk into, and it's way too small to fit into todays phone jack openings. I tried that earlier ...

Ok, this has consumed my whole day trying to figure out what to do.
I have read where almost all of you plugged in your little magicjacks into a usb port waited a few mins and was making calls instantly.

I am still waiting on an dial tone (Minus the 1950 rotary phone! :cry: )

First: I apologize for posting so many times in a row..

I got the buzzing noise off my PC by restarting it. Now..obviously MJ is recognizing my phone is hooked up because everytime I pick it up or lay it down, MJ comes on top of all apps. My only problem now is..I can't get a dial tone or call out ...

My question is: Do I need to wait on my MagicJack to come BEFORE reserving a number at GC? OR can I go ahead and get one reserved now, before MagicJack arrives?

Sorry..but the only VOIP I've ever used was Skype :x and those ...

Also note it is free for people to call your MJ number no matter where they are calling from, it was explained to me as fees that one company pays to another for the express purpose of us getting free phone calls, so basically even if you don't have a local number its still free for them to call ...
