According to black_icon and radzkillah on this thread , the updater file doesn't change very often because it's only a conduit for the most current firmware which is always downloaded on-the-fly directly from magicJack servers. The .exe or .dmg file basically checks your magicJack's firmware ...

Hmmm, well it looks like we have a huge coincidence on our hands here then. All these different people, in different areas of the world, with different internet providers not having any dropped calls since we rolled back the firmware.

Since I have actually had them admit that there is a problem with the dropped calls, and have received an email from them attesting to this, I am going to go back to them with the information you all have given me.

Can everyone that has reverted to the October update post their result by tomorrow ...

Must be doing something incorrect. Had the MJ+ plugged into the computer (same host that it was set up ) , had the internet disconnected, installed the old sofware and that was successful , however immediately it went into " your lucky getting upgraded" and the Feb 2012 software was re-installed ...

After many chats about dropped calls, I finally got them to admit that the problem is not from the router settings as long as you have port fwded or dmz.

I received an email from them that says the following:

I'm trying something else. I replaced the usb power supply they provided with an Apple USB power supply for an iphone. I also am using a very short usb extension to get the MJ+ away from the power supply.

I'm not sure the heat problem is the issue. My MJP plugged into my lap top is running quite warm and it is not dropping calls.

How do you install it as a service and not an app? Does it appear in services and can you set the startup type? Can you log off the machine but keep it powered on and will the service still run?

I've been getting randomly dropped from outgoing as well as incoming calls. But only when I have MJP connected to the network. When connected via USB all is good. MJP worked flawlessly in Dec 2011 and Jan 2012, but started having this issue in Feb 2012.

used to work nicely for a while except for European calls it dropped after 30 minutes or so
now it starts dropping even on local calls and much more often - after 5 min, 15 or so

I am running mine with a dedicated ip and dmz. Stilll drops calls. Today I moved the plus off of a switch and plugged it directly to the router port. Perhaps one less hop will solve it. I will post the result when I find out.

I've been having the same problem. Since I setup a static IP hoping that would solve the problem but it is still occurring. Some calls are fine then suddenly on a call it disconnects to dead air.
