Microsoft, Apple, and other vendors Linsys, Cisco etc. offer upgrades and down grades if upgrade causes problem.

Re: Downgrading to 12-21-08 FW
Please post HOW you got the old update to stick. This is the make or break deal for me now as I can't use my phone with the current update.
Have you tried putting an entry in your host file ("dir host /s" from every drive to find it) like:
129.1.0.0 upgrade.talk4free.com

I did not check the polarity of my phone lines, but it sounds like the no-dialing out, but dial tone OK problem is unrelated to that. I ordered a 2000mA USB power supply and plugged my MagicJack directly into that.

My new MagicJack came yesterday with my existing phone number programmed into it. It loads up and works fine - using the softphone. However, my KXTC1871 cordless Panasonic will still not break dial tone.

Mark,
I know what you mean as far as making Dan's e-mail too accessible. I would not want that to contribute to fewer people getting taken care of when they run into problems. However, I think it is important to have a conduit to higher level people, because clearly the chat level technicians do not ...

Thanks, very helpful info. Based on those photos, I have a version 3 and version 3 is what all of the retailers have. The little tan chip with the red coil above it is definitely what mine is and what Best Buy and Radio Shack have.

Some information before purchasing MJ
I visited two Best Buy stores and a Radio Shack today to see if they had Magic Jacks there. The Best Buy stores had about 30 of them between the two stores. They were all the old style without the white square above the "J" in Jack. I asked the sales person how long they have had them and she said ...

Shortly after the recent "Lucky You" upgrade, my Magic Jack dongle completely died. I have had it exactly 40 days when it died. I spent 4 hours chatting with 4 tech agents over the last 48 hours to verify it was dead and another hour tonight trying to get a replacement.

But, for not a lot more money, you can buy a Linksys WRT54GL and flash it with Tomato. My HOW-TO is here:
