It might be feasible, but programmatically controlling a scanner would be a whole lot easier.

How good are you at programming?

it's a Pyrrhic victory that MJ didn't do anything wrong because the cost to MJ's reputation was almost as bad as if they did.

Very well said!

I personally wouldn't compare MJ to Google. Google fostered collaboration among its users. MJ shut down its user forum, and hired a web developer to ...

Mark,

I totally agree with you. MagicJack is advertising to, and selling to, the absolute lowest skilled market (end users), but failing miserably to compensate through properly designed code.

I disagree that the softphone couldn't have an "exit" choice.

Either I wrote things very poorly ...

I plugged the MJ back in rebooted the pc then shut the pc off again with the MJ plugged in. No voice mail.

There must be something about the act of unplugging the device that lets the softphone gracefully communicate to the server that you're offline.

Yes, this is what I was betting on, but I ...

Mark,

I think you and I agree on just about everything. The one trivial exception is the debit card issue. I've also seen a lot of complaints out there on the web where people claim to have been immediately charged for the "free trial." Some of the claims could be FUD, but I kind of doubt all of ...

borredo,

I am just guessing here, but have you tried unplugging the magicjack USB device, giving the softphone a moment to notice the now missing device, and then shutdown the machine?

If I've understood things correctly, this might work.

Re: USB to Ethernet adapters

I'm new here and have a couple of questions that I haven't found the answers to yet. I've had my MJ for about 1 month and I really like it. So far it works perfect.

Good to hear. --If you pardon the pun. :-)

However, I was wondering if there is a way to plug the MJ directly into the cable modem ...

Could you tell me what type of hardware your running?

One of the major problems with USB is not all USB chipsets, or even ports for that matter, are created equal. A lot of system vendors cut corners and use dodgy parts, which results in inadequate power to the USB ports, or worse, erratic ...

If you take a look at the following link to all the stuff Microsoft fixed in Service Pack 2 on WinXP, and search for the term "USB" you'll realize you need to install it.

Your comments belonged in the reviews or rants/raves area.

Sorry about posting to the wrong sub-forum. I've spent *days* attempting to read everything in this one.

Disinformation ?

I realize the "titles" given to users on this forum make fun of the magicJack "Inventor" Dan Borislow, but on the bright side, from what I've read, this board intentionally does not make it easy for normal end users to abuse the magicJack service. It's an interesting contrast, but I'm still curious ...

Though I've got two magicJack devices here for analysis, I've never actually used the service, so take the following with a grain of salt.

First of all, magicJack uses a lot of system resources. This is causing at least part of your problem.

The reliability of VOIP, or better said lack thereof, is only one part of the equation when it comes to supporting alarm systems. The other part of the alarm system usage issue is the type of alarm system you're using.

Many alarm systems operate over what is called a "dry pair" --It certainly ...

I've yet to see the magicjack automatically update itself.
The only time it updates is when I do it manually.
Since an update has never broken anything for me, as far as I know, I hope it does automatically update itself. I get quite tired of going and downloading an update everytime it goes all ...

Old "update.exe" files

I'm wondering if anyone around here has any old "update.exe" files?

Yes, I know many of the old versions cannot still be used with the service but for me, looking them over might prove useful.

I've found a few URI's on this board to old files, but the URI's are no longer working.
