Re: Cisco 7970 IP with Magic Jack

I have successfully loaded my Cisco 7970 with SIP70.8-2-1S. Everything seems to work fine. The phone registers and I can make outgoing calls, conference calls etc. But I cannot receive incoming calls at all. When the person calls they just get a busy signal. I have forwarded ports 5060, 5070, tcp ...

mj supports 2 codec, G711u and G711a. I can't tell much difference between them though.

otherwise, if we can choose codecs around freely, the best codec in terms of bandwidth saving would be G729, and G722 wins for best voice quality.

711a is used primary by European carriers and 711U is used ...

No, vms has nothing to do with voicemail. It is a server for the rtp voice packets as explained in the wiki -

Wow Have been installing Nortell, 3com and Cisoc Voip solutions for 10 years using the vendor provided G.729 codec. I know we had to license others that is why we used G729. Unless the vendors have licensed it already for use on their respective system ? Yes, indeed. It is rather painless and ...

I think that the vms address associates with the rtp protocol which is the actual voice traffic and that the proxy address is the one you should be controlling your location with and that the mj server will automatically pick the right vms server based on the proxy - at least that's what I think ...

No, G.729 is most definitely a patent protected CODEC. The patent holder has engaged the services of Sipro Lab, in Montreal, Quebec, to administer its licensing. The licensing structure is such that the royalty fee can be incorporated into a piece of hardware easier and more inexpensively than into ...

Don't expect for MJ to perform any transcoding in their proxy servers, nor to pay the licensing fee on G.729, at the price they are charging us. Your success indicates that, for the number you called, the termination provider supports G.729 at their outbound gateway. You may observe that calls to ...

You won't notice the disconnection, but your callers will.

During that 45 minute window each hour your Cisco will think it's Registered, but MJ will not think so. Your Cisco will continue to give you Dial Tone when you ask for it, and will automatically re-Register and retry the call when it ...
