Well, today audio quality was "all over the map." Varied from nearly pristine to about as bad an old HAM radio broadcasting from the North Pole. My unofficial estimate is that about 1 out of 3 calls suffer poor quality, and 2 out of 3 are pretty good. I hope that ratio and the overall quality ...

I am now experiencing very raspy audio on virtually every call. It seems to be associated with the volume at which people are talking: When they talk more softly, the quality is good. When they raise their voices louder, the sound quickly turns very raspy and harsh. It sounds to me like digital ...

Exiting/closing magicJack; also uninstalling

Is there a way to elegantly exit (close) the magicJack application? The only way I have found is to go into the Windows Task Manager and manually end the magicJack process. So far this has not done any harm and has not lost any data. But it does not seem to be the best, certainly not the most ...

Again, I am finding that the telephone/headset setting is NOT saved persistently, even after I installed the Dec 07 "Vista" upgrade on my Windows XP system. After ending the magicJack process through Windows Task Manager, next time I reload the program I have to reset back to headset and re-select ...

Harsh sound calling mobile phones

Okay, you guys seem to have some real knowledge of audio. So perhaps you can answer this: More than once now I have experienced very harsh sounding audio when calling someone on a mobile phone with MJ. It sounded to me like digital overmodulation, which as you know can be very harsh and grating.

So ...

MJ too high fidelity?

I use a Plantronics DSP headset plugged directly into a USB port. The headset quality is superb. The MJ sound so far is just adequate.

I have a theory that at 80Kb/s up and down and with the CODECs that MJ uses, it may be transferring too much fidelity. I also use Vonage and Skype, both at about ...

My profession happens to be helping large companies and government agencies to organize knowledge and find the information that they are looking for. So perhaps I can help.

I agree that it is desirable to get people to search before posting. While we may not want to force people to do so, we can ...

Thanks Gary, with the upgrade, MJ does automatically save settings now. I see I can also minimize the app to the Windows tray.

Generally, I find the voice quality acceptable, but not as smooth at Skype or Vonage. I seem to get some background noise and pops. Nothing too terrible, but not quite as ...

One thing I have noticed about MJ that I like more than Skype or Vonage is that the calls seem to connect and ring almost immediately after dialing. The connection time is surprisingly short. When you dial with MJ, you better be ready to talk!

Also, I have noticed that MJ is using about 80Kb/s up ...

Save settings?

I am new to magicJack. So far, I cannot find a way to save settings. True, there are not that many settings to save. But one I would like to save is the telephone/headset setting. Each time I restart, I need to re-set this again from telephone to headset, and also re-select which audio devices to ...

Well, my magicJack arrived today, three days after regular shipping (from Florida to Virginia -- not bad). Everything installed smoothly. MJ's web-based optimization improved sound quality.

My first impression is that the sound quality is acceptable, but not as good as Skype's. For example, I ...

One simple suggestion to increase the priority of real time communications needs like voice over asynchronous needs like e-mail and browsing in Windows is to:

- Press Alt-Ctrl-Delete to open the Windows Task Manager
- Click on the Processes tab
- Click on the Image Name column
- Scroll to and right ...

A question and a comment from a new customer who eagerly awaits the arrival of my magicJack:

Does the magicJack's Outlook integration work with Outlook 2007? I have the enterprise edition and could report on compatibility with it, if that would be useful.

Regarding previously posted comments about ...

Thanks curiousgeorge. I will move to that tread after this post.

I consider myself an Outlook power user. I currently dial out of it dozens of times a day using the Skype Email Toobar for Outlook. Skype's Outlook integration is superb, with delightful innovations. I would probably continue to use ...

Outlook integration?

The magicJack website claims that they offer integration with MS Outlook. See: http://help.magicjack.com/SupportFaq/Se ... rm=outlook

Is this so? If so, how well does it work?
