Knowing this company's history I wouldn't be surprised if the new expiry date was Jan 20 2013.

I am renewing for my fourth year, and it has been $19.95 every year.

NOW, there is a 4.8% regulatory expense, surcharge, or taxes making the total $20.91.

I know, 96 cents isn't a big deal, but advertising $19.95, then sticking on an extra charge after I have already given my credit card number ...

live chat tech support was actually helpful

Thanks Ernie. I actually went to live chat tech support and they had me use that exact link, but then it failed, so they had me run the mjRemover, then they had me run the upgrade again, and it worked.

When I put it in the computer, a "found new hardware" bubble popped from the notification area. I forget what it said, probably ymax communication ...

The owner of a 1-800 can specify what incoming calls they are willing to accept - since they are paying the long distance.

Thus some Canadian 800 numbers will block calls from outside Canada, and some American 800 numbers will block calls from outside the US.

I call that exact number all the time - I have never had a problem getting through. I just tried it right now to confirm that it still works.

It might not be a MagicJack problem.

It might be that the CRA has blocked incoming calls from certain numbers. Any 1-800 number can specify what incoming ...

If you search the web you will find lots of examples of cordless phones with a REN of 0.0

My point is that I don't give a d@mn about REN, and my recommendation to the original poster is to just switch to cordless, not waste time trying to find the REN, or trying to figure out what you're cryptic ...

I've done it, and it works. I have four cordless phones (not all on the same base system). I've never counted the ringer equivalence. But I know that cordless phones have a much lower ringer equivalence than corded phones because they have their own power supply.

Buy a cordless phone system with one base that connects to the magicjack and four receivers. You can place the receivers anywhere you want in the house. Cordless phones plug into electricity, so they don't use much power from the usb.

magicjack is no longer working on fring.

it tries to make a call, but hangs up before it even starts to connect.

I haven't received any registration errors, or any error message of any kind. I just make a call and it hangs up immediately.

Yes I have done this and it works.

I haven't used it a lot. I've made two calls - to a person's cell phone who was sitting right beside me. There is a significant lag time from when the person speaks to when you hear it through the phone.

It seems that there is a different version of fring for every phone model. My guess is that some of them allow a 20-character password, and some only allow 18. I don't know if maybe you can try downloading a different version - one for a similar nokia phone - maybe then it will allow 20-characters.

The ipod touch does not have a built in microphone. If you use the touch with MJ, you can hear the person you called, but they cannot hear you.

The last things I read was that 1) people who bought the "extend by 5 years" (which turned out to be 4 years) had their expiry dates extended an extra year, and 2) that all new purchasers are receiving 5 year extensions, not 4.

I have the same problem... Calls do not complete, just go back to dial tone, doesn't matter if I'm calling Canadian, cellular, or American numbers. I doesn't matter if I use the handset telephone or the softphone.

I think Mark pretty much nailed it.....sometimes they work sometimes they don't.

I had a non-powered USB hub, and MJ didn't work at all.

I got a powered USB hub, and it works fine. It even works whether the hub is plugged in to power or not!!
