What's the latest user agent string?

I had my MJ on asterisk. It stopped registering about 2 days ago. I never plugged in the dongle. After a debug, I noticed the user agent was the pbx one and not the specified one. That probably doesn't matter. I tried other prxies and never get registered.

I'm curious as why some people are using

dtmfmode=rfc2833 versus dtmfmode=inband.

Does this have anything to do with the intermittent beep sound I hear while on the phone (my MJ was recently purchased at a Walgreen .).

I am quite interested in the differences in the dtmf mode myself.

If you read that thread you'll see I've already tried that! There is another problem involved patching ...

The settings seem to work as far as today. My problem is that even with my telephone number at the end of the register string, incoming calls are not routed by that DID.To make it work, I have to use the any DID rule and the incoming calls work ...

I have trixbox 2.8.0.1 with asterisk 1.6.0.9 and recompiling asterisk for MJMD5 breaks the system. A number of problems happen after the recompile. I fixed everything except the CDR. The CDR no longer logs calls.

If I just patch chan_sip.so, I get a bunch of errors in the frePBX interface and ...

There appears to be multiple versions of the MJ. Mine is slightly different from the two pictures. It's more like the old version but the layout has some differences in it.

A few drawbacks with X-Lite that I found are (also with SJphone or other softphones):

You have to dial via the softphone
Telephone connected to MagicJack does not ring on incoming calls
You must press send to accept incoming calls
Hanging up on phone does not switch to other incoming or established ...

I don't have a solution for this. However, I do experience an echo. What I hear is myself talking. Usually, the line quality is bad when the echo happens. I have this problem with USA phone numbers. Canadian phone numbers seem much clearer and no echo.

Another problem I noticed is that the system scans the usb bus randomly and sometimes disconnects and then reconnects the magicjack. This hasn't happened in a call so far, but if it does it will most likely end it! You can tell when it happens because the light on the magicjack goes off for a second ...

After playing around quite a bit, I can see the call quality can be made better through twinkle. The only drawback is the dialing and and answering have to be done on the computer. We need some kind of drivers that can interact with the MJ directly.

That must slow up your system, unless you got a strong machine what configuration u got?

The machine is a Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz with 2 GB of ram, a 128 Nvidia Video card, 200 GB Hdd space. The VM is set to 512 Mb Ram and a 5 GB static image disk.

Cpu usage is between 20 and 30% with the VM running ...

I seem to have a different dial tone now. It's a higher tone than normal. I had this the very first time I plugged in the MJ.

Also is the best audio to use ALSA or OSS?

ALSA seems to have the device listed while OSS has a mixer.

Your Registrar entry is incorrect. Should be talk4free, not talkforfree. The latter domain actually exists and resolves, but there is of course no proxy there.

I installed twinkle as you describe. I seem to be getting a constant 503: Service Unavailable message and the log shows:

After 2 days of tinkering, I got the MJ to run on VirtualBox in Linux. I'm running Ubunto 7.10 and I have a 10 mbit connection. After playing around, it works perfectly as it did on my Windows PC. The MJ call quality doesn't seem compromised. I don't hear any dropouts or other interference. Also ...
