As I've said before - I'm not very technologically oriented.

As mine is a new Win7 computer, I had the folks from Dell set it up on Ethernet - or so I thought! But no, they set it on wireless (via Linksys N router). They are supposed to call me tonight and re-set it to the broadband & Ethernet ...

Oh, dear - this feels like it's way over my head.

We are on cable via Cablevision. They provided the modem, after that we have Vonage voip modem (Motorola), after that I have a Linksys wired & wireless N router. My hubby is on it (XP Media) via Cat 5e, he also has an XP laptop on wifi, same to me ...

Sabresfan:

I finally found a site to test. I'm on Win7 w/ an Ethernet to cable to Linksys N router to Cablevision & Vonage modem connection. The 'jitter' was 6.0, the MOS was 3.4 and it said something about Packet Loss at 13.8.

As it's brand new computer (Dell Studio XPS 7100 with 64bit & 8G), I'm ...

Thanks Sabrefan. As I'm not sure I'm remembering it correctly, or perhaps it's not really called a 'better server', mind very much confirming what it might be called that I should be searching for? Is 'better server' accurate enough, or is it termed something else?

I want to thank Tony and Sabresfan for offering info far more helpful than someone who prefers being 'abusive' You two have renewed my confidence in this forum being helpful to Newbies. Thanks again.

Better server for better calls?

I recall some posts re changing the phone number to an area code(?) with better servers (or perhaps, better 'something else'). Does anyone recall? I'm having some connection & voice issues and would be willing to pay the $10 to change, if it will help.

If so, can you please point me to an area ...

You're all wrong! There is a manufacturing facility underground in Area 51! And distribution centers in the silos in Minnesota!

Dumb me! I didn't even think my old mJ which I used on XP home ver wouldn't work on anything else. I simply plugged it in and... viola! Same as always! You really shouldn't have any trouble. Mine seems to be using the Vista file which came with it - no problems. Unless there is something you know ...

It never seemed to work. It appeared to be in a loop, continually trying to connect. Continually in a state: TCP Connect Wait or Waiting for Server.

Cell 14: - my firm is in a NYC high-rise office bldg with lots of steel to cause all sorts of cellphone problems. And mJ was nicer (and cheaper) than the 800 cards we used to use prior to buying an mJ.

kuhntech: - Thanks for the explanation. I understand they don't rely 100% on VOIP - my comment ...

Thanks for the comments. They have not published any 'rules' about this.

Our firm is extraordinarily cheap. In order to call home (2 area codes away) they've charged $1.00 per min + a surcharge. Insulting as their phone system is VOIP! So a couple of us have used mJ in the office. But I suspect ...

MJ on office network?

Anyone run MJ on an office computer on a network? Our firm has a rule of no unauthorized programs or hardware (altho I've got my Palm, iTunes, etc). I've used my MJ on the office computer for a couple of years but all of a sudden my MJ softphone won't sign in. Tried upgrade.exe but no go. Also ...

Duh! I'm guessing you think I didn't 'make the effort' by searching before first posting this question. There was nothing in the forum I could find which offered an easy (i.e., non geek-speak, layperson's English) to understand explanation of 'thin client' Or perhaps this forum is only for ...

I guess "...... all you lovely people out there that are willing to keep the mJ alive!" types haven't yet replied.

The ones who responded apparently did not read that I'm a "Newbie" and unfamiliar with forums in general. So, it seems this forum is not very helpful! And I am not a 'poor guy ...

I've had this mJ for a few years and have the 1/2 sec delay but no echo all along. Makes no difference if on my home computer, office networked computer, laptop while traveling, no matter which phone I use, etc. Callers think I'm on a very cheap cellphone! I also find the quality is even worse if I ...

incoming forwarding problem

Just set up another mJ & tested (this is 3rd). When calling the mJ # (305) from my home fone (631), softphone shows the incoming # (631) & asks whether I wish to accept or ignore. However this is wrong as I've set mJ to immeidately forward to my cell # (917) and not to my mJ #. Also my cell does not ...
