This CAN be run as a service. At least ala Firedaemon (which runs any windows EXE as a service). But once you configure it the 1st time and check 'Save Settings' you can just run it from startup folder, if that's what you want ...

Basically these are the differences between the ATAs (PAP2T-NA) I bought from China and Buy.com:

1. Package
China: White box
Buy.com: Linksys box

2. Device
China: Looks flimsy, and the printed text is not correctly aligned with the lights
Buy.com: Looks solid, printed text is correctly aligned ...

FYI, most ATA are made in China or other countries other than USA. So the chances of failure maybe same

There are 20 area code available at the moment and I beleive all of them are CA area codes.

Sipgate looks interesting, but it looks like a Google Voice number (for incoming). I mean, the actual phone which is connected via ATA will not ring, only the phones that are linked to your account will ring. Can someone confirm this?

The reason why Dan wants to kill the ATAs is the server load IMHO. Not everyone runs MJ 24/7 with the dongle. But people who uses ATA runs it 24/7, which means increasing load on their servers. Just my 2 cents.

Don't take me wrong, but looking at this thread, I have a felling like someone from MJ started it to see what they can do to kill the remaining working ATAs.

I don't understand why people keep on saying Skype. It doesn't use SIP, meaning that you need to have your computer running all the time. I tried it with D-Link adapter, such a pain... If you have an unlocked ATA, you can use MJ without a PC.

Thanks Steve. The packages are exactly same and there is only one UPC code, no serial number or anything. I will return it tomorrow.
