I had a somewhat similar problem except that I could receive calls OK, just not get audio thru non 800 no.s outgoing calls. Check out my posts here. You need to test locally with a friend. I had to return the MJ but I have to admit that the 800 no. calls worked perfectly.

I do not use a router. I use high speed Time Warner Road Runner thru their modem - Surfboard SB4100. I returned the MJ to Best Buy. I will wait until late this year and maybe try again. The modem has a USB jack on the back - I could have tried that one and I could have changed my no. once but ...

Yes, toll fee no.s work both ways - I tell them, sorry wrong no. and they reply. A telephone engineer would know how 800 no.s work versus regular no.s = that is the key. I am returning to BestBuy today - maybe they will let a tech test it, but I doubt it.

I have same problem. 800 no.s work fine. Calls within my area code 803 connect but no audio either way. Close, but no cigar. I may try headphone/mike setup instead of phone. Will return to BestBuy if I cannot get it to work soon. Possible problem is maybe my new no. is one of few in exchange......so ...
