One thing I tried as an experiment from talking to a friend was to set my Magicjack into 3G mode. I have a 20 Meg down connection so speed was never a problem. Don't know why but in 3G mode I don't have any audio problems that I had in the other mode. Must be the different audio codex.

How do you ...

Flash drives should never have a defrag ran on them.

I don't want to stir the pot here but. If I understand flash drives which is what is in the magicjack just like the USB thumb drives. You never ever want to run any type of disk defrag on them any way. Flash disks only have so many write cycles to them. Reading from the drive dosn't hurt them but ...

I know they don't recommend doing this but you can also set the Magicjack software into 3G mode which will use less bandwidth as well.

Just for the record even thoue I'm on a big ass 20 Meg down connection I still have my Magicjack set to 3G for some reason I don't get as no where the audio ...

what the FCC going to say??

I would love to sit in the FCC office when this gets going. I got a funny feeling this will never pass muster with the FCC. I know you can have a cell repeater in your home legally. Since it doesn't change what carrier the phone is on just retransmits what it hears but a device that is on the same ...

Re: Antivirus program makes voice choppy

My laptop used to have AVAST installed and never had any problems with MJ. My brother removed avast from my computer and installed Norton AV because he said it was a better program. Since then I'm experiencing all kind of problems with MJ - choppy voices, dropped calls, etc. Can Norton cause all ...

From what I understand you need XP or better.
HOWEVER if you can get a copy of micro XP ( SUPER BARE BONES version of XP) MJ will work on it. I have it on a backup PC JUST for my MJ in case my main PC bites the dust..

Hey thanks for the info on Micro Xp. I had a need for something like ...

After reading all of this I'm glad I don't have any contacts stored on the magic jack it self. Every thing is on my cordless phones. I have called a few people already that have magic jack and warned them about the contacts now uploaded to the server.

Kind of bugs me what are they doing with that ...

How can they auto renew when they don't even have credit card number> I never filled in the credit card info on my account. Guess that is one good thing about buying it at a store and not from their website.

Re: New features

I received an email from Dan because I asked if ATA was "off the table". He said no. He also stated that soon the flash memory would not be necessary. What is kept in the flash of the dongle, would be maintained on their servers.
Standalone devices should be ready by the end of the year.

I do not ...

I have Comcast as my internet provider. So far I haven't had any problems with Magic jack on it but I don't use it very much so if they do packet shape to mess with VOIP I may not be drawing attention to my connection. Your mileage might very.

One other note technically it is illegal for ISPs to do ...

Another trick is if you have an extra DSL filter laying around is put it in line between the dongle and your phone. I did that and my caller ID started working.

I'm thinking it was pulled now as well. I've been reading another post that had a screen shot of it and I posted in there too that I think it was pulled. Since it seems that not many people are talking about it.

Yeah I saw this, this afternoon. MJ stopped working on my vista computer due to the upgrade, it kept saying that MJ wasn't plugged into the USB port. I finally gave up and plugged it into my old windows XP laptop and noticed that change.

They apparently must have rolled back the upgrade, or ...

I have just tried several times to pull the new update even downloaded from the link posted above and even tried from magicjacks page. I don't get a new version. Yes, sometimes chat support is helpful. I have had them refresh my account many times which solved my issue.

There are those times however, when they haven't a clue, and rather than be frustrated, it's best to just end the chat, and use the forum instead.

I know what you are saying there about ...

Re: CID on cordless phones can work with MagicJack

We reviewed all off the comments on possible fixes to making MagicJack CID function work on a cordless phone. Instead of trying to create a resistor we took an extra DSL filter and plugged it into the MagicJack unit and then plugged the phone line into the telephone port of the DSL filter. The CID ...
