Ok
I copied my .XML contact list from the MJ to my desktop.
Reformatted the MJ...once reformatting was complete I unplugged the MJ for 30 sec (not sure about exact time needed) and plugged it back in.
I then created one contact using the MJ's softphone interface. Doing so created a new .XML ...

contact list problem
thanks for the info showing how to locate the contact list I really appreciate the help.
When i started my MJ today it is showing my contact list as "contact is empty"...I was not a happy camper. So I located it using your directions to find it fully intact in .xml format.....but my MJ is stating ...
