Re: Try a Thin Client-Get your computer back(priceless)

net talk is cheaper than a thin client.

Wow! Are you really that clueless? (Shaking head sadly....)

Over 300 thin client listings for under $50. Ummm - let's see - a Duo is $70? I'm not saying they all can run a MJ but many can.

I'm thinking about nettalk. I don't think I'm going to renew my magicjack. Nettalk seems cheaper and doesn't require a computer.

This is no longer for sale, but RAM statement is untrue. I am currently using a t5520 from Alpman with no problem. I changed the virtual memory from 256 to 512 and have had zero problems. I is and has been running for over 1 year. It is the only phone we use in our home

Not sure why you feel the need to bash thin clients as they can do way more than just run a Magic Jack. Maybe it is because you paid more for your Duo than a Magic Jack and a thin client combined. What ...

It sounds like everyone is pretty darn happy with nettalk.

I use a t5710 with 512 MB RAM and a 1 GB FLASH. But, it is an 800 MHz Crusoe processor so it is a bit short on processor power since the processor is not native X86 instruction set. SOmething like this t5720 on Ebay with 512/2GB I would think would work perfect.

HP shows all t5000 series use SODIMM (upgradeable) memory, but if Stevereno has first hand knowledge I defer to him. In turn the factory OS for the t5520 is WindowsCE which will not support MagicJack.

In alpman's post, he says the ram in the 5520 cannot be upgraded

Magicjack on Thin Client Is a Waste of Money

I have an Alpman thin client running magicjack.....

it rarely works. in the unusual event you can place a call, it will probably be the only one you can make unless you reboot the machine.

If you accidently dial the wrong number...forget it....you'll have to reboot...

its set to reboot everyday ...

don't have much time to chat, but you may look at trying to route to a different mj server. I'm not sure how to do it, but there are posts in this forum. Not sure if its a t5000 or t5520. The main hp sticker says t5000, but there's another white sticker that says t5520.

Anyway...

I'm confused...I've read on here where people say you really need 512 to run MJ smoothly. Others say you can run it with 256, but it might choke up a little from time to time....
