I didn't realize that you absolutely have to use a phone (or some sort of tricky adapter with your RJ-11 jack) - this product will not accept headphones, even when connecting via USB.

I was unable to even get decent sounding dial tones, and the voice quality was very choppy under different ...

Will not run (yet) in Linux

I tried running a MagicJack on the latest Ubuntu release (Lucid Lynx 10.04) - no dice.

Using WINE (the Windows emulator) only gets you as far as the "plug the MagicJack into the USB port" error image.

There has always been a lot of hope that there would be Linux software - that would make it easy ...

Does not work in Linux

I haven't tried too extensively, but even installing WINE and other emulators (sorry, compatibility layers), I have not been able to get MagicJack to work. Lucid Lynx (Ubuntu) is coming out soon, maybe it's worth trying then.

Obviously, if it ever does, it would be wonderful, but I don't believe ...

Previously unlisted proxy?

Hello.

MagicJack seems to be connecting in my case to prov1.talk4free.com (as listed in Fiddler2).

85ms latency!

However, I am in San Diego, and pinging the San Diego proxy is only 30ms.

How best to change this? I didn't have luck with the hosts file - it seemed to persist in trying to connect ...
