Is that how it is identified in device manager under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section? If so then ther is a discontinuity between what you are seeing and what the OP is seeing ...

For some reason, in Vista the MJ is configured as a USB controller while in XP it is configured as a Mass Storage Device. If someone else who is running Vista would look into the device manager and post how their MJ is configured would add another data point for this question. You may have stumbled ...

i fixed mine by plugging it directly into a usb port on the mb. vista finds it and installs it as a 'usb controller'. i believe the monitor is found as a 'usb controller' as well, so you must not be able to plug a usb controller into a usb controller....

troy

That sounds like a Vista feature.....

oldnuc: a town/city would be ok.

Have you received the latest upgrade? Yesterday or today when you statup the MJ? For some reason, the Vista upgrade does not want to play with your BIOS. For what ever reason the MJ has decided that it will no longer respond to the initialization ...

The latest Ubuntu works well, but the Java update did require use of the secret handshake to get it set as the default and link the FireFox plugin. The good news is it did not take forevr to find the info.

I know their firewall is excellent, but I hadn't seen anything on their AV product.

First, check ASUS for a BIOS update for your board.

Second, turn off USB support in the BIOS and see if the OS will pick it up when it boots. There can be problems with this if you happen to have anything like USB mouse or keyboard.

It could also be a semi-broke MJ :(

I would say that is true. XP is at SP-2 and is good. Advance comments on SP-3 is that there is a large performance boost.

Ipicked up the pointers to the Comodo products off of this site.
Firewall Leaktester. There is a performance chart on there somewhere. I also run a paid AVG AV and Firewall on another machine and it also works well, but costs $$$. The free AVG is ok as long as you remember to keep it updated.

If it were me, I would go to Distrowatch and then the page thy have for your distro and hope the is a user forum listed there. It appears that you are using the 1.4.2 plugin and it usually will not play well with others. Updating java and linking to the plugin, it REQURES a symbolic link or you will also have crashes is distro dependent, is described on the Sun site but that is not the best way to do it. Which flavor of ...

When the problem occurs the next time take note of all of the programs you have open and then go to Control panel>Sounds and Audio Devices and see what is selected. Might want to go ahead and check the box to use the default audio device also.

There are a host of things that can cause this problem

How to filter them out?

Two ways. First is try the Adblock Plus extension and the filterset. That should do it. But, if it does not, then this is the nuclear option. Install this file, Blocking Unwanted Parasites ...
