If you can discern no reason why traffic is going through you computer, your machine may be compromised. It can't hurt to check out what's using that bandwidth and why.

Unfortunately, I have no clue what the MAC address is. As I stated above, it doesn't show in the DHCP client list in the router and the security log just show a generic entries:

The "dead spot" you're talking about sounds like a latency problem. Check with speedtest.net to see how fast your connection is.

magicJack defaults to Internet Explorer, regardless of what your default browser selection is. If you're having trouble determining where your downloads are, try using a different browser to download. Most browsers default to downloading files to your "Downloads" folder.
