Is your Linsys a router or just a switch?

What you want is to split your internet between the two devices
and a switch will not do that.

A router WILL allow you to connect the 2 devices to the same
internet (your modem)

Yes as long as there is a router with dhcp enabled on the same switch so the
Magic Jack can get it's IP address

Did you mean you have a Magic Jack and want a new
Magic Jack Plus?


If you're upgrading to MJ Plus, you can keep
the same number as your old MJ

I was having the same issues and this is what I found

max2198 is on the right track with ip lease times

My router (cisco dpc3825) gives the MJ+ it's dynamic IP
and it works fine (max 24hrs on mine). After that time passes
the router doesn't give it a new IP until I restart the MJ+.
