OK, I've updated my install script, which hopefully will work on Vista. It uses various sources to get all the needed info, so there are no restrictions on drive letters and what not. It will also generate a log file, so if anyone has problems with the install, please post the log!

Well, since you gave me no useful details to work with, all I can do is guess. First, try disabling your firewall. For some reason I had to reconfigure mine after the update. If that doesn't work then the best thing at this point is to just run cmd and use the command

net stop magicjack

Yes, the service should work all the time, even when you're not logged in. The problem with the way the service is setup is that it uses a separate helper application to actually run the service, which unfortunately doesn't pay any attention if the application that is supposed to run under it ...

DirectX is Microsoft's media driver architecture. It primarily tends to be used for games, but it has lots of other uses as well. Even IE uses it for effects rendering.

Open [font=Courier New]X:\magicJack\AddressBook.xml[/font], where X: is the letter of your magicjack drive (only one of them has a magicjack folder.)

Sorry, but the magicjack box itself requires a USB host port, drivers and software to work, which you are not going to find on any router. Besides, the only "mobile" routers I've heard of use cellular boardband, which are not only expensive and require a data plan with a cell provider, but I doubt ...

The only way you can use MJ without a PC is to get an ATA (analog telephone adapter) or a SIP phone. Some say that accounts have been canceled for getting caught using them though.

Two things:
You can use the REG command from the batch script to do the necessary registry edit like this:

reg delete HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v cdloader /f

Also, any reason for using magicjackloader.exe rather than magicjack.exe?

It's there alright, just ignore the solutions that tell you to use a packet sniffer since that doesn't work anymore. SP3 was working fine, but then the calls would get choppy sometimes. Their "fix" at least cleared that up. No problems with it at all now! If it helps, I use Avast antivirus and Comdo firewall.

You could probably get one cheaper, even free, if you're willing to take a junker with a broken screen and/or bad battery. You can always hookup a monitor to get it up and running. Then leave it on an ac adapter and stuff it out of the way.

I'm not sure what it changes in the registry, but you can use TweakUI to do it. The setting is under My Computer->AutoPlay->Drives

You can get TweakUI from the Microsoft power toys page.

Sounds like MagicJack is failing to start for some reason. First, open Task Manager to see if magicjack.exe is listed under the Processes tab. If it is, end it. Then try to start it without using the service to see what it's doing.
