Asked for an invite maybe a year ago....got it a few days ago. Signed up and its great for me. Why? I have an ATT landline minimum cost of $12/month with no long distance. Locals are 2c/min & long dist. whatever they charge. I normally don't even use it to call out as my cell has lots of minutes to ...

Voicestick Next to Nothing plan is a great place to port your number to. Only $1 a month, can use ata with no issues and reasonable rates. I like magicjack but even if they do offer porting I'd rather keep Voicestick and have 2 lines. When I ported there was no fee, not sure now.

Looks ...

I have found that some phones will not ring while others will. Someone on this forum measured the ring voltage from magicjack and saw that it was only about 65 volts AC for ringing. POTS telephone lines have always used between 90 and 120 volts AC for ringing. Some older phones with mechanical ...

The light bulb is on! :P

However keep in mind, that to use an ATA, you'll have these upfront costs:

1. If you don't already have a router, you'll need to get yourself a router (this comes in handy for wireless and connection sharing....if you don't already have one, I'd also suggest ...

SIP Cred is the SESSION INITIATION PROTOCOL or in other words the proxy and domain as well as the password and username your magicjack uses to register to the network to allow for phone calls. The reason these are so important is to be able to use a device other than the magicjack (which is buggy ...

If I select area code 619, do I also get to select which prefix? Or is this a random assignment.
I'll have to ask my brother if LaMesa is a toll call, unless I can find a phone book online?

Thanks!
MJBob

EDIT: Yes, La Mesa is a local call for him. :)

Based on http://www.telcodata.us/telcodata/ocn?ocn=261E , it looks like you will get (when Cincinnati becomes available) a 513-442-xxxx . This is clearly a local call for anyone within the city. If you have relatives in the suburbs, you can ask them to look in their phonebooks to see if 513-442 is ...

No Uninstall?

So after reading the past two pages, I guess there is no uninstall for this software?
I don't even have it yet( have been reading up on MJ and issues), but that seems to be poor development of the software. :(

This seems to be the big obstacle to using MJ for receiving calls. My area code is listed but the city is 200 miles away! That means a charge to a local party calling me. ugh.

If I could get a landline for $12/mo, I probably would...
