Do you have SP2 installed for XP? If not, you could download & install SP2 which has some USB fixes. Also you may want to schedule a disk error check/repair to clean out any system disk file errors.

Very good point. I forgot to mention the cost of an ATA device. It costs anywhere from $20 to $80, with most would cost around $40. Not to mention it's very small, needs very little power to run compared to a laptop or thin client PC or full pledge PC.

The updates you have downloaded directly from MJ might be newer firmware for the MJ device, newer MJ softphone updates but might not have the newer hardware drivers for the MJ device. MS Update service only provides driver update and not firmware nor application updates.

It's standard practice for hardware makers to submit their drivers to be included in the Windows' built-in driver database. You can safely download any driver update from MS Update service and it will update your PC with the latest driver if it found that the previously installed driver was older.

If you do not use the MJ softphone to place/receive calls, you could install MJ as a service. Check the "magicJack Tips, Tricks, and Hacks" forum for tips on how to install MJ as a service. No more MJ icon on desktop, no more MJ flash startup screen.

MJ should work anywhere where broadband internet is available and the ISP doesn't block VOIP ports (5060, 5070).

From where do you get the error? From browser? IE or Firefox or from within magicJack softphone? This error indicates the "Open URL" command association is broken within the OS. You may need to reinstall Windows to repair this error.

Most people are happy with their MJ purchase and had no issue installing the MJ device. The no Caller-ID issue is a known bug but you could fix that with the 100K resistor mod.

Most work places have firewall, proxy server to filter internet traffic so it's likely SIP ports are blocked. I wouldn't recommend trying to go around the firewall/proxy unless you want to get fired

Yup, I noticed this as well. It didn't happen all the times, just occasionally. MJ softphone sw still needs bug sprayer :lol:
