Thanks for you reply Copernicus. You may notice that I've entered a comment of "Problem solved" by live chat agent "Dwight" editing my registry. Your instructions may help someone else with this problem, however. It apparently does happen to others, but at what frequency I have no way of knowing ...

I'm sorry, but I can't remember the precise changes to the registry. I just followed his step by step instructions and could not repeat them now if my life depended on it.

Is MagicJack knocking out your Windows audio device?

I've found the culprit...it's MagicJack. I couldn't figure out what was causing my taskbar volume icon to disappear and the control panel's "Sounds and audio devices" to show "No audio device". I've been doing system restores to get it back.

Is anyone else having this problem?...And even more ...
