thanks, i picked up one, waiting for delivery. my original mj expires next year and i won't pay 29.99 for a year of original magicjack.

see if at&t has 'measured local service'. I have this from Verizon. it's 17.53 a month (including all those taxes), and they charge you for any outgoing calls, (it's like 1 cent a call). We don't make any outgoing calls on that line, (other than alarm) but keep an answering machine on it, and ...

mine worked out of the box when i got it a couple years ago.
note I am verizon as well with westel modem. I run the modem as bridge connection and use netgear wireless as the router.
I didn't have to open any ports or anything as you described.

Hmmm, probably a catch 22 for you. With Paypal, you need a credit card to generate a disposable credit card. Maybe you can open a Paypal account with a debit card? Do a search to find out.

It's a problem with any USB device that makes a fake cd-rom to autostart. if you plug in a sandisk U3 device you will have the same issue. It is because roxio tries to access the fake cd-rom.

it's a fake cd-rom drive for the simple fact that they can put autorun.inf out there to automatically startup the program. since the op sys thinks it is a cd-rom it will run autorun.inf, which says run the program when you push in the USB stick.

you can use nero, you just have to unplug magicjack when you want to use it. i use nero to burn ISO..

I'm really surprised you can dial 7 digits, we haven't been able to do that for at least five years in Massachusetts, 10 digits are required for all calls including local.. yes, when i call my neighbor i have to include the area code..

yes, 2.4 ghz phone works fine with my netgear wireless G. if you have issues just change the broadcast channel on the wireless router.

even if your PC is off, calls go to voicemail, so when you come home you can check your voicemail to see who called.

all magicjack will do is display the phone number of the caller on your phone, it won't display name.
works fine on my GE 2.4 Ghz cordless, you can pick up one anywhere, I think i got mine at walgreens, it's about 10 bucks or less. so it could be your phone.

for a couple weeks now..calling from a cell phone (at&t) we get 'Call Failed' to magicjack in 508, about every 3rd call.

just fyi. guess we are still not ready for primetime. luckily they can still call skype-in with no problems from the cell phones...

Here is the fix I used. It wasn't easy. I had to apply this fix, i.e. registry change on my Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H and my Gigabyte GAM55plus-SG3. One machine I couldn't figure out the port using magicjack so I did all the ports.. i believe one has 12 ports the other has eight.

But it worked on BOTH ...

we did that back in July, do a search.
pretty much anything that requires a cd-rom or dvd-rom, because the programs do not like magicjack's making a fake cd-rom.

that's true, it does hold your registration information and usage, and contacts on the usb drive, but it loads a lot of stuff on every pc you plug it into.

in hidden directories in xp you can find all this downloaded stuff in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data ...

yes, all circuits are busy about once every 3 weeks since last november from a cell phone that i get a call from once a day.
but i have a cell for emergencies, (pay as you go). never expected it to be that reliable for 20 bucks a year. basically use it to replace long distance outgoing calls.

i had that problem on a desktop. wireless usb and magicjack plugged in the same hub. Moved the magicjack to the USB jacks in back of the machine, and the wireless usb adapter to the front USB jacks and the problem disappeared.

the voice saying to leave a message doesn't always come on and sometimes when it does come on there is a time delay that most callers will hang up thinking something is wrong with the call.

you could always switch to measured service until magicjack is stable. i've had MJ for almost a year now and sometimes on their servers go down and then no calls. unfortunately they don't have a status page (like skype) to let you know if the system is having trouble.
