i worked it out...
so my solution consisted of:
1) updating the drivers on the aftermarket usb 2.0 card. after that i was able to plug mj in w/o crashing the system.
2) unistalled mj using this process:
1. Unplug the MagicJack USB Dongle. Go to "Start" in Windows and click on "run" and type (enter) regedit and ...
