I had the same problem ...could not use the handset only the soft phone .....My problem was the USB audio device was disabled ( go to device Manager) .....mike

I followed your steps and it did "uninstall" MJ .... I plugged back up and it seems to go thru the USB found and install but then at the end windows crashes and tries to reboot but locks up .... I am NOT using external USB ... just the ports on the back of the machine .... I'm 99% sure they are 2.0 ...
