I do have some concerns about how accurate the P3 power meter is when it is reading a non sinusoidal signal. The only thing that will handle that accurately IMHOf is a Bolometer and I am sure a $16 dollar P3 does not have anything as sophisticated as that on the inside.

I got 512 of ram and bought the CF to IDE adapter and used a 4GB microdrive. If I were to do it over, I'd just get the flash DOM due to my inability to get XP embedded to work on the microdrive due to some licensing issue. I had to go with full-blown XP.

Just remember to get a thin client that has XPe and not CE. Plus, it's got to have at minimum 256/256, but that's just barely enough space.

No one will share here because it's a great way to tell MJ: "Hey guys, here's a security hole you need to fix!"

Personally, I think it's easier to use a thin client than do the cat and mouse ATA thing. But having an ATA already would certainly make it tempting to use it with MJ that's for sure.

That's weird. I have AVG v8.0.168 updated as of today: 9/4/8 and when I scan autorun.exe on my MJ, it comes up with nothing: also nothing when autorun.exe is executed.

I really doubt that the computer will cost $18/month, but I could be mistaken. My Dell Inspiron 530 Core Duo 2.0ghz uses 70watts and 52.41kwh power draw (as measured with my kill-a-watt ).

Just for grins, I tried MJ on Ubuntu 8.04 lts and it wouldn't even mount the phony CD drive. Ubuntu showed that it was there, but I couldn't mount it to try to install via wine.

Next, maybe I should just copy over the mjusbsp folder and trying to run it via wine then.

Personally, I can't install the default HP XPe image on my microdrive. It will install, but then complains of a license issue. I probably would have used XPe, but it wouldn't work, so I had to go with full blown XP.

Something to consider.

It doesn't look like you completed your question. But I thought you just plug the MagicJack into the wall with a regular phone cord after you disconnect the outside service. I could be totally wrong.

I figured out about the driver. What I did was choose to point windows to the right folder. But I didn't manually select the type of device which then led me to the file and presto - it now works. Thanks.

I set it to choose the driver myself - not XP choosing for me.

I guess the licensing thing is not a known problem. I might try flashing XPe again, and see if it bitches about the licensing again. Then if no joy, abandon the stock HP image and try XP Pro again.

You can activate your MJ away from home, and when you get home, it'll work on your computer without having to activate it again.

It won't interfere with her land-line at all, but it will leave some program information in the computer's hard drive and registry which isn't a real big deal.
