re: magicjank disconnects after 5 minutes

I'm developing a problem with dropped calls as well. I'm narrowing down the problem by eliminating possible causes.

I'm down to 'not enough power to USB ports' or 'dongle is going bad'. I have Avast! Home Edition installed on the host computer and had already excluded Magicjack files, folders and ...

No Windows 98 support.just put xp on that machine :) 64meg of RAM or more will do.

Have you ever seen how slow XP runs on 64MB of RAM?

I wouldn't recommend running XP SP2 or 3 with less then 384MB. 512MB or more would be better.

To the OP: No, it won't work with Win 98 [or Atari or Amiga or C64 ...

Sorry if I didn't explain clearly the first time:

My caller ID was working without the resistor mod before the 12/17 update. Since the original post about the resistor mod mentioned trying several different values of resistance, I used a higher resistance [in order to preserve audio quality; back ...

I had a look at the file in a hex editor. I can certainly see 'CallDurationLimit', but I don't see anything resembling '3600' in decimal or '0E 10' in hex. What tool produced this dump?

I suspect that the limit can be edited, as well as whether or not the limit can be enforced [it looks like there ...

My caller ID worked before the 12/17 upgrade [after which it stopped], so I used a 220k resistor, just to be cautious and so as to minimize any possible effect on audio quality. The resistor mod restored caller ID function.

Area code 203.

A call was dropped at exactly 30 minutes on 12/24.

A call to the same number was not dropped and lasted 35 minutes on 12/27.

I haven't tested for a 40 or 60 minute limit here.

I can confirm that area code 203 had a 30-minute limit in place on 12/24 and that the limit was removed [or changed to 40 or 60] before 12/27. I was looking at outgoing call records after the Mrs. reported a call being dropped, and there's a record of a drop at exactly 30 minutes on 12/24 and a 35 ...

I have the 12/17 upgrade, and now it wants to give me another upgrade [or it still wants to upgrade me]. It's either another upgrade or a glitch.

EDIT - Never mind. It's just an ad. Ran magicfix and it's the same version. Personally, I'm curious if the 30-minute cutoff is still there, but that's ...

Absolutely. Forget it. It won't work. The transmission delays that are a part of satellite broadband make VOIP unworkable. Data needs to travel 47,000 miles [from your dish to the satellite and back down] before it even gets to the satellite ISP's gateway. That takes time, even at the speed of light ...

DrStrange,

Are you running on a PC or a MAC?

The dedicated computer is a Dell Dimension 8100 running Windows XP SP3.

After a bit of research, I also got the version number from the registry. That version number is ...

12/21 Upgrade. Lucky us!?

My MJ has been a bit squirrelly for the past couple of days. This is the second day in a row I've had the MJ application quit unexpectedly and had to reboot the [dedicated] computer to get it running again [to fix 'Connect MagicJack to USB port']. This time I got the 'major upgrade' notice. I ran it ...

Re: 2 Extra Digit Phone Number

I have the same thing happening here. I suspect it's normal. My guess is that there may one day be, or there was once, an option for multiple voice mailboxes on the same line. I'd be very interested to hear if this weren't normal.

Hi I had a friend order Magic Jack and he has been having problems ...
