I can make and receive calls fine on two PCs that I have. One runs Vista, the other XP SP3.
When a call comes in the MJ box pops up and asks if I want to answer the call and I can no problem. I have no ringing sound.
The same phone rings fine on Vonage. |

I'm tried using a cordless phone and regular desk phone. The phone doesn't make a ringing sound on incoming calls. The MJ displays that a call is coming in.
I did the MJ update, but didn't help. |

It's just a cheap GE Slimline phone. Model 29265EE1
I've used my cordless phone before and it did ring fine. Now it doesn't. |

What is the phone's REN? Have you accidentally turned the ringer off by the switch that is typically on that kind of phone? |

I'm not sure what you mean by REN. The ringer is turned on. |

REN - Ringer Equivalence Number
It is listed on the label for the phone. It is a standardized measure of how much current it takes to ring the phone. Smaller is better. |

this might be what is currently happening to me... I set the software to use my soundcard for a bit... I used to have it ring my other three phones with no problem at all... but i used my soundcard to make an outbound call and when i set it back to use the magicjack hardware i got the same symtoms as fryguy...
I have another phone line through skype so i can call and test with my MJ and i called my MJ... No ring... Until, i picked up my MJ phones... It was ringing in the phone speaker but it was not ringing the ringer...
Has anyone heard of this? I have restarted the software... I have rebooted... It still will not ring the ringer but only plays the ring wave file as through the phone speaker as though I was using my sound card... How can I fix it? Thanks... |

Power Supply issue? could it that the computer might not have enough power ti supply enough to magicjack-phone?
or the phone line connecting the phone and magicjack.
I used to have a 8 feet long phone line, and the phone doesn't ring or even a dial tone, try a different phone, no luck?
then tried a shorter cord, guess what- it ringed? |

Other things to check:
-Are you plugging your MJ directly into a USB port on your computer, preferably one on the back of your computer?
-Are you using the supplied, or any other, USB extension cord to plug your MJ in? Try it without if you are.
-Have you tested the phone on another service, like a landline at a friends house, just to make sure it is not the phone that is broken?
-Have you tried another phone with your MJ to see if it rings? |
