|
|
i am thinking about purchasing a thin client pre-configured for magicjack off of ebay but before i do i was wanting to get some feedback on others that have already purchased one off of ebay.
the sort of things i curious about is did the call quality improve?
what are the minimum spec on a thin client i should be aware of?
were there any issues when setting up the thin client?
is there a ebay seller that someone would recommend? |

I would make sure that you have at least 512Mb ram installed. Other than that I really haven't seen anything that has a lot of the tweaks listed here on this forum. If you are using it for magicJack then why have things like Skype and Windows Media player installed. If you want more than just a magic TC then you need to get a higher speed processor TC so it won't be overloaded.
I know for a HP Stroths image seems to work great, but you have to have a minimum of 1Gb DOM on your TC. I am running magicJack on as little as 256Mb DOM but I won't go below the 512 ram.
If you don't mind reading then you can save some money and have a better unit.
I have purchased quite a few TC's from eBay but none preconfigured. It should be pretty easy if you already have a magicJack that you are using on another pc. You also run the TC headless and use something like Teamviewer to manage the unit. |

Hi pepsiman, I bought "mJ pre-configured" off of eBay. Wyse w/550 MHz processor and XPe as the O/S. Unit works great and I am getting another.
What to look for? Check the sellers feedback pay particular attention to previous "mJ pre-configured" comments. I bought from a person that has a history of selling these type of units. You may pay a couple of bucks more, but will save so much time later.
Suggestions if you get a TC; put it on a UPS and use a hard wire to the router. I also invested in Process Lasso and run it on the TC to keep the mJ process High.
I use my mJ to provide service to phones through out the house. As such I plug mJ into a POWERED hub.
Hope this helps |

Hi Popgory,
You mentioned in your signature "Wyse 9450xe TC, 1Gf/1Gr; XPe sp2, powered hub".
What do you mean by "1Gf/1Gr", if you refer to memory and Flash memory, how did you upgrade your memory, 9450 comes with 512 only? |

The X450XE and the X455XL have two PC100/PC133 slots capable of 512 each for a total of 1G. Max from the factory was 512, but they will handle 1G no problem. Just be sure they are low density. The VIA chipset doesn't usually like high density sticks.

Try Frys or ebay. EDIT - Frys doesn't have any, but newegg does. A little spendy though. You're better off on ebay. |
