I just had this problem, and I thought I fixed it, but it failed!

It keeps saying: "Warning: You must plug MagicJack into USB" as it says in WarningNoDeviceFound.gif

I tried everything - I have to wipe the hard drive out every time I use MagicJack.

Please set MagicJack up to work with Sandboxie like it did before!

How do I downgrade to a version of MagicJack that works with Sandboxie?

If I can't do that, I will have no choice but to dump my MagicJack on eBay.

The following was my old fix, which failed after I reactivated Sandboxie's blocks. I want to KEEP THE SYSTEM CLEAN - and running MJ out of Sandboxie will not keep the system clean! I use IE for other things, and I don't want that folder getting messed up with stuff I don't need.

If you are using a sandboxing utility like Sandboxie to prevent Internet clutter, chances are you had a problem where your MagicJack splash screen showed a "You must plug the MagicJack into a USB port" error.

That's because the upgrade tool was trying to write to the Magic Jack's firmware. Here's the fix, in two ways.

Messiest: 1) Disable the Sandbox for the two MagicJack partitions, and plug in the MagicJack.

This is not recommended, as then your Internet Explorer would be filled with entries that can't be disposed of under Sandboxie.

Cleaner: 2) Copy the C:\Sandbox\Administrator\MagicJack\user\current\Application Data\mjusbsp\ar00001\upgrade.exe to the root c:\, and run from there.

There still will be entries in the C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings and the C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile folders.

Those folders can be emptied out with Unlocker 1.8.7 - just target the *.ie5 folders only, and delete them. Use Unlock All. If you've never done it before, you'll be surprised at how much junk was in there before.

Make sure the MagicJack program directory C:\Sandbox\Administrator\MagicJack\ is targeted in Sandboxie so when the program loads, its Explorer contents are in the sandbox.

Note the directories are according to the user account chosen and the Sandboxie settings.

This happened when the MagicJack was upgrading the system to include a DSL/FiOS & Airlink (wireless Internet) switch.

There should be another setting - "Busy Hotel Internet" - this is great where there's a comic or costume convention going on - too many folks choking the traffic watching Youtube, and playing SecondLife... It wreaks havoc on the available bandwidth there, and there's a high likelihood for MJ connections to drop out. Good project to try out MJ, eh?

Maybe you MJ guys can set up a table at a convention for people to try out MJ by offering free calls to anywhere in the world on the phones on the MJ table only. San Diego Comic Con and New York Comic Con are best bets.

By the way, I am using Verizon FiOS at home.

I'd love to try MJ out at work, but they have access restrictions on the computers there - no programs can be run off of USB drives there.
