Guy ... you are correct that USB 3.0 is backward compatible, however, when I plug my mj in the 3.0 port, this happens: the computer knows something is there, but MagicJack does not report what it is or what it is supposed to do, so a window comes up saying "Please plug in your MagicJack to make calls", then nothing works. MagicJack support told me "sorry, but mj is not compatible with 3.0 at this time." Since new computers are coming out with nothing bu 3.0 USB, they will have to address this issue at some point. I thought there might be a work-around to this issue.
Also, if the mj is not a 3.0 device it most likely cannot take advantage of the increased 3.0 speed. There will need to be a firmware and software update from MagicJack to solve this issue. |

Have you tried your mJ on another computer without the 3.0 ports? Are we sure there's not just something wrong with your mJ?
mJ doesn't really have a bottleneck on speed, even at 2.0 speeds. Heck, even 1.1 works, IIRC. So while new drivers, etc., may be needed to make it work, the product probably won't get BETTER because of 3.0 advantages. |

Yes, it works on 2.0 USB. I tried 3.0 to solve a signal cutting in and out problem on some calls. I improved the situation by placing a cat 6a network cable between my router and my cable modem. That seemed to improve the data stream speed on my network.
I think you are right that 3.0 will not be a speed advantage, at least until there is a new generation of MJ to take full advantage of the new 3.0 technology. |
